You think a president that is hell bent on turning against our population will last very long?

It’s happened several times before. In several countries. Our rights are in place to help protect us from that.

Even the Jews in Germany were complacent as hitler rose to power. You see how that turned out.

This is my fricking point. In our current state, it’s not really something that can happen. Even if we had some nutjob President that wanted war against the citizens, do you think our congress or military would follow through?

I don't think that was your point when you were trying to say that a bunch of guys with their personal gun collections were no match for the current US military. It is not the fight that will happened, hence why I said you couldn't imagine it, in this state.

Was that not your argument?

Edit:

hate to break it to you, but America's military, weaponry and intelligence has evolved just a wee bit since the 2nd amendment was written. a bunch of country boys with their tricked out Glocks, 1911's and semi-auto rifles isn't gonna do shite.

Yes, that was indeed your argument. If it is not your point, or doesn't support it, leave it out.

If said president came out and said that he wanted to wage war against Americans for no apparent reason, no. But what if he found a cause or motivation that got enough traction and support to start it? It's not like a leader would ever tell a lie to his constituents for diabolical reasons, right?

False. It was an oligarchy prior to Hitler. Ruled by parliament.

That was my response to the initial assertion that the citizens need weapons to protect against our government and military. The argument then evolved and I further defended my point by stating this imaginary war isn’t happening.

Read the post where I said our government’s structure, consisting of checks and balances, is the true deterrent against tyranny. Not some good ol boys with their rifles and glocks.

So I guess you don't care about any white, Hispanic or Asian people who live there.

I'm sorry, but if you need a lesson in oppression of the black man, go somewhere else. Firearm control with the intent to incarcerate upon checkups would be devestating to the poor black population in compared to the other races you listed. But sure, it will oppress all poors, which I don't support.

Do you?

So don't come at me like your point was obvious when you are making seemingly conflicting claims.

So is it that hard to recognize that this is another C&B? The existence of the second amendment? Not just the seperation of power?

Our bloated and power hungry government. You can rely on others for your protection all you want. I will protect my own.

Hitler acted with the support of a population that was in shambles after world war 1.

And your point? Societies change. Governments change. You base your safety off the hope that ours does not.

we've had the same government for almost 250 years. how many times did Germany's government change in that same time period?
