Congress has to approve a declaration of war, correct? So you think hundreds of congressmen will vote in favor of America’s military going to war against their citizens?
Here is what you need to understand, the way our government is currently constructed, it is impossible.
If the day ever came that the American government turned on its own people, our government would be structured much differently than it is now. And if that happened, that would mean our constitution, including the second amendment, is already out the window.

So...in order to keep this country from falling from grace and doing away with our rights it is IMPERITIVE that the 2nd amendment remain. You’re tiptoeing around proving my point for me, but you just haven’t quite got there yet.

I really don't think that the government's structure would have to change that much. It would just need the right people in the right places. Besides, who's to say it won't change? With our current political climate, who know what our government will look like in the near or further future?
And like I will say for the third time, I don't believe it will ever happen, but it's not impossible.

I think you are missing the point. It is a check and balance, a control. Could a check be forged that needs 2 signatures? Of course, but it makes it less likely to happen.
I think that you also miss, in your scenario, the thought that the entire military might not be complicit in this fight against the US people. It is not really something that could be imagined up in our current state.
The scenario being feared is not a war my friend. It is hostility and control.

This is my fricking point. In our current state, it’s not really something that can happen. Even if we had some nutjob President that wanted war against the citizens, do you think our congress or military would follow through?
