I’ll take a swing. It’s a nuanced attempt to remove the position, that we only can “defend” ourselves from aggressive attacks like Pearl Harbor.
Now, we proclaim our right to pre-empt a threat.
For 47 years, Iran has both verbally threatened us, and has aggressively sought harm to our people. To wait until the sky turns red is too late for me.

It’s still the Department of Defense, legally. Trump just ordered everyone in the Executive to call it the Department of War.

Fine. I concede the point. We aren’t at war and the US hasn’t been at war since 1945. No president since FDR has started a war. There’s no such thing as the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Iraq War, Afghanistan War. We didn’t fight any wars in Syria or Lebanon.

Granted it’s better to have trans in military as well as authorities over the troops so they project as strongly diversified unit
