Why are we afraid of Democratic Socialism?

Why do I get the feeling that if public libraries and public schooling didn't already exist today, they would be seen as some far left radical socialist idea? (i.e. 'Why should we have to pay for someone else's kid to have an education or read books!?') We already live in a socialist society in many respects, and it has only worked towards the betterment of society.

Why fix what isn't broken? Many people are unwilling to change themselves, so they feel the need to change the system. Those people are called communists.

Everything that is “Socialized” in this country is horribly run. And there is no such thing a democratic socialism just like there is no such thing as reverse racism. There is racism and there is socialism.

Well your first step is understanding the difference between supporting your local community, and the national government taking your money and giving it to some worthless sack of shite on the other side of the country. Or Washington DC.

As someone who was born and raised in a communist country, I say wash your mouth with soap and, if you must, buy a one-way ticket to a socialist country in Europe and live there for a few years. For the betterment of society, my a--! We had 'public libraries' in my communist homeland when I was growing up. One-room libraries with ONE copy in sad shape of 'approved' books. Happy reading!

Public libraries are such a bad example dude.
Their funding is from local taxes and the amount of yearly funds required to maintain public libraries is basically a rounding error.
As for public schools, your history is a bit off. Unknown to many, school attendance was already widespread before the government made it public and compulsory.
Education reformers called for public school because they wanted a standardized curriculum and because they thought govt has a compelling interest in teaching children things that will benefit nation in long run.
I’m not advocating getting rid of public education, but the original motivation behind it was not what you say it is in OP.

Socialism adds nothing, grows nothing, invents nothing, produces nothing but scarcity.
Socialism ultimately requires collectivization at the point of a gun.

"Afraid" is the wrong word. "Don't want, will fight" is better.
