This is 100000000% a nothing burger but carry on nonetheless.

The position was taken at least as early as 6/30, not days before.

I agree. I seriously doubt there’s someone so stupid to buy 120k put contracts to make money on Trump getting assassinated and then having to explain their purchase afterwards. They may as well walk around carrying a sign that says, “I did it!!!”

If the puts purchase story is true (and like you, I’m not convinced it is), if I had to guess I’d say someone bought 12,000,000 shares on margin and the lender required the puts to be purchased as insurance against a big price drop.

It’s also insane to think they’d actually tie themselves to a filing that has to be made public hahaha.

If they were trying to make money on the assassination attempt, they’d have sold everything in their portfolio and shorted the entire market. Trump getting killed would have torpedoed things.

never know how markets would react, but def agree that if that had happened the entire market sees a big drop and options on SPY would be much less noticeable. Millions of options traded on SPY everyday

Also, there are no dates on a 13-F other than their holdings at the end of the quarter. That means they had the position on 6/30 which completely blows up this crackpot theory.

Its easy to explain apparently. We just made a mistake fellas
quote:

No client of APW holds, or has ever held, a put on DJT in the quantity initially reported. The correct holding amount was 12 contracts, or 1,200 shares— not 12 million shares, as was filed in error. In submitting the required report for the second quarter of 2024, a multiplier was applied by a third-party vendor that increased the number of the shares by a multiple of 10,000 for all options contracts (not just DJT). We did not catch the error before approving the filing. We filed the report on July 12 to reflect our positions on June 28. We amended it on July 16.”

They made a ton of them in their report. It happens.

They were showing a put for 300,000,000 shares of NVDA, but that’s not quite as juicy.

That would explain it.

But there’s going to be a lot of disappointed posters on here.

Can you post the link to what you quoted, please?

I'm not a trader, so I have a very limited understanding of shorting and anything outside of long term equity investments.

But, isn't shorting typically done on volatile small and mid cap companies, of which DJT fits the bill?

I'd imagine DJT is/was heavily shorted, right?
