Is there a cost benefit analysis buried somewhere in this thread? I am not going back through all those pages looking for it.

I can’t answer that question, I just know foster kids go to the top of the list when it comes to admissions

The costs are not worth it. By 3rd grade any academic lead has been lost.

Children from head start tend to have more developmental issues, learning disabilities, and disciplinary issues. They are also more likely to be unemployed following high school dropout or graduation.

Children in Head Start tend to come from broken families which would in part account for their success and failures

I would assume it’s because they have been dealt the worst cards when it comes to success. I’m amazed every day how well our current kids do when you consider they have been removed from their parent’s care

Kids living in poverty are the majority of kids in Head Starts. None of what you posted would surprise anyone considering you’re describing kids living in poverty.

So poor and single parent is still behind a foster situation?

Good, it sounds like Missouri is taking care of the health needs of their foster children. I think the disconnect is if they aren’t taking care of their childcare/educational needs, but foisting that off onto the Fed Gov.

Texas provides free state funded pre-k for foster kids. Pre-k is free for all children in poverty and learning English, but also those who are children of active duty military and first responders. Then if there is room in the program, other families can pay tuition to enroll their kids. It’s more a socioeconomic mix, rather than just grouping all the poor and foster kids into one program. And it’s state funded, though we do have Head Start as well.

Ah so you could make 2-300k and foster a child.

That kid jumps everyone else?

Yes, it’s one of the benefits of being a foster parent

Correct. So maybe we should spend the money to fix the broken family unit of the poor.

Stop incentivizing piss poor behavior by the poor (like having kids they can’t afford) with “free” programs for them.

So a multimillionaire gets preferred priority over a single parent for daycare called head start.

I’d like nothing more than to place our children in a faith based school but we can’t until we adopt. Until then, they are property of the state and have to attend state based schools

No, a foster kid gets priority. I’d like nothing more than to be able to either enroll our children in private school or do homeschooling but while a foster child that isn’t allowed

Nice I don't blame you and hope you get to adopt.

So no matter what foster kid gets to the front of the line.

Adoption is definitely the plan but won’t know more until June
