It actually would be free to me as a foster family.

Exactly, it’s going to be free to you anyway because your kids are foster kids. There is nothing magical about Head Start, it’s not super special high quality education, they are just comparing it to the NO education poor kids were previously getting. Not sure why you’re whiteknighting for a program that has been proven to have no long term benefits and in fact has been shown to have detrimental outcomes. You could put your foster kids in a better educational and socialization program and it would still be free to you because taxpayers are going to subsidize it. Why not let us subsidize a better program?

In the case of a couple of our foster kids they entered the program non verbal

So they learned to speak. Something kids learn to do just by being around adults.

Something that requires absolutely no skill.

What a waste of money.

If I’ve seen success with Head Start, why would I advocate for another program?

They were around many adults when they were with their bio parents and that didn’t work.

On one hand doesn't head start help in keeping kids late for working parents?

Other parents pay through the teeth for after school programs AKA child care.

But I also see Uncle Sam feeding children all summer. Not poor children, all kids in summer rec programs.

I pray jobs and the economy is so highly improved, that Uncle Sam doesn't have to feed and watch kids.

I will get belittled, don't care---- but if a man makes good money a woman should watch her kids from birth until they are in school all day. Even if a man isn't a baller-don't buy ipads for 3 year olds.

Head start is for low income families

That's weird. I always associated Head Start with the place all the bad kids go that get expelled from school.

The Trump administration is asking Congress to eliminate funding for Head Start, a move that would cut early education for more than half a million of the nation’s neediest children and child care for their families.

After reading up on this, there are real gains for some.

That said, it does have very high costs, and even studies that are positive show >80-85% of children in it do not benefit.

How would you reform it to get the same amount of money to make a much bigger impact.

Definitely not the case. Most every Head Start student hasn’t begun school prior to attending Head Start

It seems like grants for anything pre k related. And only in certain areas.

Not that your 8 year old gets watched an extra hour after school.

Two of the public elementary schools I went to had an after school program, but it was prob due to just paying more taxes where you live to have these things.

A once a week hour-ish class staffed by volunteers and completely free also helped. Honestly glad to hear it, no hard feeling to you or your kids. I think you absolutely do see the difference between a free volunteer-staffed church program and a leviathan federal (or state) program force funded by taxpayers while showing little to no return on investment. I think you’re just dug in now on this topic.

I can’t speak for other states but in Missouri Head Start only lasts about four hours daily in the morning and is finished soon after lunch

You have to be low income to get this.

Want to bet one or both parent doesn’t have steady work? But need the daycare?

Means they sitting on their arse all day anyway.

Being low income isn’t the only factor to get your kids into the program
