There are 50,000 public school teachers in Louisiana. They haven't had raises in years. This raise is so we get closer to the regional average of teacher pay.

Are we getting closer to the regional average of student competency? I know JBE has not kept up with the regional average economic growth!

Teachers get paid from a number of sources including local school boards. Have local sources not given teachers a pay raise? If not, why? Maybe a piss poor JBE economy will not allow a raise?

Just asking.

Edit. I’d hide behind my wife’s skirts too with your record JBE.

Yes and the recent budget increased money for local school districts as well.

Hey, let’s get rid of TOPS! <runs for cover>

I hate how everyone buys into the R & D party lines here. If you watched the legislature at all you saw the committees, all headed by Rs, refuse to cut spending and renew taxes.

Yet in this thread, $1K is a slap in the face to teachers, but we don’t want any increase in taxes to give them any more. So what is anyone supposed to do. Oh wait, R good D bad, that solves it. It’s all stupidly ironic.

With or without commercials, JBE likely wins in a landslide. None of the other candidates are resonating.

Not the question I asked.

Have the local school districts increased their independent locally sourced teachers pay?

If not why? If so then they have been getting raises!

Yeah, an incumbent polling in the low 40s just months before election just screams landslide!

This year, St. Bernard increased their pay $2600 across the board for teachers, on top of the $1,000 from the state. So our teachers are getting a total salary schedule bump of $3,600.

I believe this was the first across the board raise in 4 years or so (aside from annual step increases).

While there are a variety of public school funding sources, the vast majority of it comes from the state via the MFP, which per-pupil had not been adjusted in several years. While local sales and property tax collections - both of which have a portion go to our school system - did increase, so did expenses. Mainly in the areas of health insurance premiums, risk insurance premiums, and consumables.

By the way, to link to another fav topic of the PT, one of the reasons they were able to give that $2,600 in local money, is because they rejected a couple of ITEP renewals.

JBE is also trying to buy other state employees. DOTD for sure, probably others.

Some people have received 15-20% raises, maybe even more, with adjustments they have done over the past year or so.

LA GOP Executive Committee

This is the brain trust that thought running Rispone was a good idea instead of finding a quality candidate who can actually speak intelligently.

A key Livingston Parish School Board committee on Thursday recommended an additional $750 paycheck for school system employees.

quote:

The school system had a tradition of giving employees a "13th check" each year from 1997 through 2008, Wentzel said. But when the Legislature stopped giving annual increases in state funding for parish schools, it became harder for Livingston to afford the annual payouts.

quote:

"We stopped getting that 2.75 percent increase, and as a result that 13th check stopped as well," Wentzel said.

quote:

School Board member Jan Benton recalled the extra checks meant a lot to school employees when she was a school principal.
"The teachers so much appreciate it," she said. "We need some happy teachers, so we can show our appreciation."

Yet the $1,000 is a "slap in the face?" Not buying it.

Either/both/the highest anti-JBE vote getter in the jungle.

Right now Abraham, but Rispone has time to catch up.

Yep, I’m not buying that crap either!
Give me $1,000 and I’ll thank you.

I’m also not saying some teachers deserve a pay raise. But saying no Louisiana teachers have received a pay raise is pure BS.

Individual school boards pay different salaries based upon local tax collections, therefore comparing average Louisiana teacher pay to other states averages is a statistic that has very little real world bearing. Comparing average local pay to the average income of the local area is reality. Local economic growth automatically increases government tax revenue and allows pay raises for all public workers including teachers.

But local stagnation equals pay stagnation. JBE’s economic tax and spend policies resulted in comparative stagnation and local teacher pay stagnation.

Now locals can raise tax rates, revenues, and spending in a stagnant economy like JBE did, but they will face an uphill re-election battle like Bumpy Head is.

Up vote!
So much promise and potential pissed away!

He did fine his first 4 years and earned reelection. But then he coasted with delusions of a presidential run. But as Babeling Blankstare Blanco showed, coasting when shite-hits-the-fan is no way to run a state. When oil taxes crashed and caused a $2 billion shortfall in Louisiana’s too big government, he did nothing for 2 critical years!

Now JBE is riding increased oil revenues and has raised taxes on everyone in Louisiana, and our economy is lagging.

We need a Constitutional Convention!

Unfortunately none of the big 3 are advocating this!

I think his internal polls are showing extremely low personal favorable ratings. His honor code is in tatters, his high taxes have hurt everyone, his spending has helped few, and his miserable Democrat economy is forcing our young workers to become job seeking refugees in other GOP run states.

I'm sure the feedback he got from his first commercial was poor. It is pretty sad his crowning achievement that spearheaded his re-election campaign on was raising taxes.

He wanted a pat on the back for taking more of our money.

Actually some important committees are headed by Dems and others by Edwards allies.

Our system is weighted in favor of the governor just as EWE intended when they wrote the current constitution during his run.

Without the governor on board it’s nearly impossible to reform the budget that the governor submits. We all know that.

I know EBR used their windfall to keep from cutting their budget and lay off some “dead wood”.

My words.
