Is that what we’re supposed to believe? That hundreds of thousands of minds were changed about the 2016 Election by random social media accounts?

It happens to leftists daily. Whatever the 4 AM talking points are, the sheep eat up, even if it's contrary to what they were saying yesterday.

People change their minds after seeing memes and internet arguments all the time. Everyone knows this

Never. No progs have changed my mind either. That's likely due to them being wrong and sky screaming is a bad look.

Also, liberals love to point to the polls getting tighter following the Comey letter

There is zero evidence the dnc hacks caused polls to get closer. Hillary had her widest leads of the entire cycle in July and August when the dnc stuff came out

But we all expect ranting here will turn Toddy straight or VOR into a capitalist?

Happens to Dems everyday on DU.

Think the SC pick was made back in 88, Trumps playing the long game.

Eh...you’re dumbing down the concept. It’s the idea that hundreds of thousands of bots can create the illusion of a change in public opinion, which then affects the opinion of the public irl. The premise makes sense, but in this case it’s still all bullshite.

I've seen whatever Hannity says on something get repeated here within minutes of airtime, and then fifty or so people suddenly chime in and act like the issue is the most important thing in their lives, and whatever Hannity said was the God's honest truth of the matter. We see that kind of thing all day.

That is the power of advertising which includes a testimonial from an unquestioned source. One poster says it and insists that it is true, then 50 people repeat it and insist that it is true.

But this isn't a "failure" by one political mindset or another. Social marketing is effective. That's how companies like Facebook make billions of dollars.

I am inclined to believe that no minds were changed. They only hardened their positions.

There are 2 types of people.

Those that think that advertising only works on other people.

And those that try to avoid advertising.

It's a cop out. Russians have been trying to influence American politics for a long time and it only matters now because Hillary is arse hurt.

It seems like most people here aren't really concerned with changing minds so much as attacking critics. Sfp, NC Tigah, and a handful of other posters have definitely caused me to rethink opinions I hold or held by asking thoughtful questions. I like threads that go that route.

I was a huge Hillary fan boy, but after reading fake news on Facebook, I became MAGA and voted for Trump.

It was amazing. My balls dropped, I grew hair on my chest and a beard. My voice got deeper, my muscles grew, women actually wanted to go out with me!

It's been an amazing transformation. Thank you so much President Trump for saving me from being a soy boy.

We've all changed our minds about Cruiser, Toddy, LowTBoy, awant, AssRobber...

We used to think of them slightly misguided human beings. Now we know they are incompetent raving lunatics.

It’s effective at activating your target audience, it’s a lot harder and a lot more expensive to turn a customer using marketing.

With politics, social media has always been about activation and driving the vote. To suggest that Russians used propaganda to turn voters is ridiculous. At best they pushed more people to the polls to vote how they were always going to anyway (and at 100k in ad spend it’s not that big of a scale), but they mainly just reinforced people’s opinions.

And that’s not coming close to the threshold of influencing/changing an election
