...don't be surprised if the Republicans (via President Trump's wishes) add another amendment to the bill which the Dems violently oppose.

Like maybe, approval for paying for The Great Wall of America.

If Trump sees public opinion going against the Dems, which will be evidenced by Schumer begging for a vote to stop the government shutdown, the President may pull one of his negotiating tactics out of his bag and make voting for ending the shutdown even more distasteful for the Dems.

Teach the rat bastards a lesson!

Of course, the bill will have to go back to the HoR but that's not a problem.

I don't know.

I mean, I like sticking it to the bastards as much as the next guy. But there is such a thing as overplaying your hand.

Pass the House bill
Period
Or
Shut this motherfricker down indefinitely
Never go back to how it was
This shutdown needs to be the new normal if it means allowing tens of millions, and eventually hundreds of millions of third world invaders in this country.
House bill or kick rocks

Ds have just moved into a horrible position. They very well might be forced into excepting whatever the President offers. Hell, Trump should hold a press conference and say that the new offer is the FY18 Presidential Budget that was released over the summer, take it or leave it.

So many to choose from. I mean the wall is a given but do we want the moat upgrade or the barbed wire?

Yes, there is, of course.

So maybe it will be something that a majority of Americans want but the Dems would normally oppose just because it's Trump's idea, such as Trump's infrastructure improvements.

I agree - it is fine to be hard-arse on important things, but I would recommend against vindictiveness.

But I would not yield on a single thing after the shutdown - and prod the congress to get moving ASAP on Obamacare, Infrastructure, Southern Wall, Education reform, etc.

Strike while the iron is hot, but do so all above board and avoid any semblance of maliciousness.

I say save infrastructure for later. That one should be bipartisan, much like DACA + the Wall should have been. I agree with your initial sentiment that he should push for something a bit more painful to Democrats. He needs to send them a signal that progress for all Americans will not yield to their obstructionism.

Yeah -

If Trump were to take the opportunity to make Schumer push a boiled egg up and down Pennsylvania Ave with his nose, I'd snicker to myself, but in a very controlled voice tell my greatgrandkids = "don't act like that"

This is the point in Trump's Presidency where he needs to start taking the high road. He's made real progress on getting this country back on track at this point. Continue to fight back, continue to play tough, continue to make your case directly to the people, but leave the sophomoric antics to the Chuck Schumers of the world. He need not distract himself nor his critics with that kind of fodder when the world should be talking about his policy achievements.

He needs to stick it to the democrats and not let them get out of this easy.

Remember Trump is the guy who wrote in his book, The Art of the Deal, that one negotiating tactic he would use for a particular difficult counter-party is he would arrive at the negotiating session 30 minutes late, walk into the room where everyone was standing around waiting for him, go over to the the lead negotiator of the other side, poke him in the chest and say, "frick you!"

Then he would go sit down at his place at the negotiating table.
