I blame the legislators that write the laws and regulations. Laws like being able to pull someone over because a one of your license plate bulbs burned out. Stop you for that and they can run you thru the system, look thru your car, etc. Same with not making a "complete" stop on a country road with no traffic. Those regulations are written by people other than the LEOs. Same thing with other areas of life. Want to build a garage...get a permit and submit a plan or you're in violation, etc. Seems like small stuff, but thats how it gets built.
How did it get so far? The inevitability of incrementalism.

One thing I never understood was seatbelt laws

Seatbelt laws aren't about safety. They're about giving police more reason to pull someone over and effectuate a Terry stop.

Oh for sure

The police wouldn't have devolved into an "us vs. them" mentality if not for laws that have created that mindset

Every citizen is a walking violation

Don't know exactly when, but Americans have been steadily ceding the responsibility for their own safety and security to the government for quote a while. Disarming the populace requires a police state, to reassure those that you've stripped of their God-given rights that government can and will keep them safe.

That said, I absolutely do support the police, and absolutely do support their victims when they overstep their bounds and abuse the power we give them. It is shocking to me, to see the kind of response and police presence possible when something goes a little sideways here. Too many cops.

I think the entire town of Laurel, MS is built on speeding tickets. The only place I've even been where the speed limit drops to 40mph on the interstate.

We're at the point where, in certain states, it's against the law to use a straw, or not putting your tin can in the right bin, and we accept that as o.k.
Let that sink in.

State troopers line our highways pulling people over, when if you cross the state border heading to Texas you rarely see highway cops.

Are you truthfully complaining about troopers along the interstate? The same interstate where there is daily frickery in NOLA, BR and Laffy? What’s your reasoning, bc you have to slow down?

I get your argument about the other stuff but this one has me a bit perplexed.

What other laws should we let the police decide to enforce or not? Why are the police blamed for enforcing a law written by the elected officials? Blame the legislators.

I get troopers on the basin bridge

However, just about every time I get back from Texas, you can count on 2-3 cops from the state line to Jennings shooting radar. Makes our state look like shite.

I guess the point of this topic is too nuanced for you even though it isn't nuanced at all.

Guess you think since Christ was executed that he must have been guilty.

because pay higher local taxes or allow local law enforcement to rape the shite out of anyone driving through your town

most prefer the lower taxes side
