re: What's driving the narrative about the price of oil right now? It's not like gas is $4/gal

Just curious beef since you seem to know your shite. What is the US cost average?

It’s actually a lot more subjective than people think. Costs are wide-ranging all across the country depending on access to the product. Some wells are deeper and harder to get to and some are really easy.

The “average” simplified is about $40/barrel right now.

But it’s really around $20 in some areas and upwards of $60 or so in others.

People are dumb if they think the POTUS of the US can cause the price of oil to increase or decrease. That is controlled solely by OPEC.

This is bad information and a fallacy. Maybe a half-truth at very best.

Like Venezuela, are we the only ones that can refine Canada's shitty crude?

Nah. There are others, just not in the volume we can.

China for sure can.

Depends on where you’re at and how much it costs to get oil near you produced or imported in.

Also yes, taxes and fees at the pump of course make a huge difference.

But there’s this misconception that OPEC sets the price of a barrel and this suddenly sets the price of gas everywhere, and that’s just ridiculously false.

LOL, I do love my truck, but there’s nothing special about it.

I’m a stock broker, and I do a lot of oil and gas general partnerships and futures, so I’ve had to learn quite a bit about this stuff.

I drive no more than 15000 miles a year. That's 500 gallons.

20 cents either way is only $100.

Oh the horrors!

Trump wants to keep the shale drilling and production sector shut in by artificially low prices for crude to benefit the Russian production operations.

The media are trying desperately to get people to get excited about something other than the jobs they have that are now paying a little more, the booming economy, relative peace in the ME, low unemployment - especially for minorities, and general optimism overall.

People are too busy working and enjoying themselves to realize just how awful it is to have Trump as President.

I pay $2.35/gal in Hammond. It's only high if you live in liberal states with high gas taxes and regulations.

You live right next to the production areas. Transport costs are cheaper. You are not wrong about liberal states though

What size tank came with your F-250? My dodge 2500 has a 32 gal. $58 would be an amazing cost for a fill up. I’d drive around burning tanks of gas for no reason if it was that cheap.

Yep. I'm hearing it's down around $20 in the Permian. In the past, the number thrown around for deep water gulf projects was $75, but supposedly is closer to $60 now

You remove Iranian production from the market via sanctions and prices rise. They're up about $10/bbl since the pull out, but thinking $150/bbl is in the cards is ludicrous, and, frankly, I don't think you saw an article suggesting that. Prices pulled back a couple bucks when Trump made noises about not asking allies to not buy Iranian crude.

Pelosi's claim after job numbers:

quote:

At the same time, the President’s reckless policies are exploding gas prices, wiping out the few meager gains that some families should have received from the GOP tax scam, as wages remain stagnant.

The truth is that Dem policies care more about raising taxes than they do about the working class:

quote:

Here's why. California has one of the highest gas taxes in the country at about 40 cents a gallon -- roughly 10 cents more than the national average. California also has tougher gas standards than those of the federal government and mandates the use of cleaner gas with fewer emissions.
