There are lot of great responses in this thread. Our church has armed security and many also concealed carry as well.
When there are not dangerous mobs around, however, it is more important to get trained to use the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. My hope is that more people (myself included) will mature further in Christ and get to know the Word on a deeper level, not just to save the lost, but to feed the sheep to teach and learn as the Bereans.

Jesus wanted no conflict on his behalf at that most important time. Jesus knew of his fulfilling of the Salvation was imminent and did not want Peter to interfere with that.
Jesus even showed those arresting him who HE is. Right there for them to see.

false. He's the same throughout. He showed tons of grace and mercy in the "old testament" and plenty of wrath in the New

I think ‘turn the other cheek’ may have meant ‘let evil be exposed for what it is’, which isn’t the same as ‘turn the other cheek and let evil destroy you’.
Instead, ‘let evil expose itself and so it may be righteously defeated’...

right when jesus told peter to put away the sword in the garden of gethsemane it was because it twas not the time nor place and he knew his fate and destiny.
some cannot read or interpret scripture. self defense is allowed.

I just wanted to add one thing.
Some people who see God as being a different person in the old versus the new may not be think about the greatest work of all time, Jesus's work on the cross.
The wrath of God was poured out upon Jesus on the cross for our sins.

What’s he said isn’t correct. We are in a period of Grace where God is holding back his wrath. But if he thinks God’s wrath isn’t coming back, he hasn’t read the last book of the New Testament.

Mississippi has a law called the Church Protection Act, that if memory serves, absolves church goers that use deadly force of criminal and civil liability of the use deadly force to protect the life or limb of others in the church.
It was laughed at when passed, not so much now.
Disrupting a church service doesn’t warrant deadly force. Threatening church members might, circumstances dependent.

All states should have this law.

The situation in NY does not apply to the "turn the other cheek" Scripture. That passage is an example of personal conflict between two individuals. It teaches us to swallow our pride and hold our anger. What happened in NY at the Baptist Church was, first, a transgression and blasphemy against the House of God. Secondly, it was an extremely dangerous situation for the elderly, women and children at a minimum. It's my job to protect the innocent. I will do that.
