I specifically mentioned itching for a fight. Now I do think a lot of people who say these things don't really mean it once they consider the outcome (even if successful, threats to their family, prosecution, etc.), but that's nonetheless the rhetoric.

Jesus brought a whip into the Temple (on possibly two separate occasions) and did some damage to those who were violating the Law.
We can follow His example.

A Time for Everything
Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 verses 1 through 8:
Jesus was no coward, and God is a reasonable, just One: Assuming we've adhered as much as humanly possible to the virtues of patience, being slow to anger, prudence, faith, etc., we are allowed- we are justified- to act accordingly for everything that happens under the sun. When the time to act is nigh, we are expected to act.
Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 verses 1 through 8:
quote:We are all, essentially, wired the same, and with that said there'll be no doubt when the hour has arrived and the time for war has come- if it comes.
To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time of war, and a time of peace.

While on the one hand I understand your point/concern, I would suggest that the point/concern stems from the assumption that those who are assigned the task of security have the same attitude as some who post in these threads.
My experience has been quite the opposite. In fact, most the "security" personnel at the Churches I know of have law enforcement/security backgrounds. They are professional and quite even tempered. Of course my experience is not widespread.

That’s why I posted the verse.
I’m not a person that believes one should turn the other cheek while being victimized or your family is. I merely was playing devil’s advocate to stir a conversation.

Yeah and I'm not really that concerned.
I just think this conversation is an interesting offshoot of a broader topic - which is the alignment and dangers of alignment of political and Christian defenses right now.

Our church had three police officers that were members. Each were required to carry while off duty. That means at least three guns were in the church when they were at a service.
We didn't worry about outside disruption and intentionally did not reveal the presence of guns at a service......Speak quietly but carry ...

Did you miss the "eye for an eye" part?

Agreed. I tell my Christian friends all the time, at the end of the day we trust the transforming power of the Gospel. Not policies, politics or any politician...

Once services start, lock the doors. Jesus will too.

Maybe they should just pray about it. That seems to be the answer for everything in their world.

I’ve always believed turn the other cheek has to do with minor things that can be brushed off with little to no harm.
If your life is threatened I don’t think Jesus wants you to just sit there and get murdered

Yeah.
Actually I ignore it.

It’s hard to believe in that type of church that none of the parishioners were packing?

Same. And the church is private property, so if all they do is yell, we'll call the great Sheriff's Office that serves our county first. If they move past yelling to touching anyone, they will BE touched. By lead.
