re: Whatever happened to the libertarians on this board?

My "libertarian" bonafides:
I am pro-consent marriage but acknowledge that there is no "right to marriage" in the U.S. Constitution and that the federal government has no jurisdiction over marriage arrangements.
Businesses are under no obligation to provide a product or service to anyone. I believe in complete freedom of contract.
I am anti-prohibition of products (drugs, guns, etc.) Adults should be able to partake in any activity they choose so long as consent is obtained.
There are limits to the personal freedoms. But, there should be very compelling reasons for the limits.
I am Catholic but advocate a hard separation between religion and the government.
We should have an exclusive 17% flat federal tax across the board and there should be strict limitations on deficit spending.
Trump is a national embarrassment. He is good at identifying problems but terrible at solving them. He is the guy who finds termite damage in his wall and burns the house down.

You look silly continuing to pursue this.
That is fine. I just try to remain consistent.
I was not completely opposed to the travel bans FWIW

I think they're a waste myself.

The restrictions to my freedom brought on by religious conservatives are legion.

Well sure, but the LP is moronic.
Completely agree. The thread seemed more party related than ideology related. That's the reason I posted the party platform.
The simplest explanation of basic, ideological libertarianism is Penn Jillette's in my sig pic.

In Baton Rouge, I want to say that most of the blue laws have been lifted, but it was just a few years ago some brunch spot refused to sell me a bloody mary before a certain hour on Sunday, though I can't remember who it was.
I imagine it's still pretty draconian in smaller towns.

I agree. And while the NAP can get messy once you get into the details and underpinnings, it's pretty damned solid when taken in broad strokes.

Me? Do you deny that the initial travel bans were based off religion?
I do think, however, that Trump wanted to ban all Muslims coming to this country...he said as much himself.
And in Trump blind luck fashion, low and behold there was a travel ban already in the works that had a few Muslim majority nations on it and he was able to use it as crutch for his "Muslim ban" AND be able to blame it being an Obama created ban. Win win.

How many libertarians do you know?
Between undergrad and grad school about 30.

I would guess most "libertarians" would say I am not one because I don't support open borders.
None of the libertarians I knew supported open borders. In fact a strong police force and courts is paramount to protect liberty/property. The border issues is South instead of North for one reason... crime.

By open borders, I mean Gary Johnson's definition, not completely wide open borders.

It sucks.

Borders should be open for people with no criminal history and job skills so they won't go on welfare. Libertarians are opposed to welfare. Trump's view of immigration policy is not in conflict with Libertarian views.

They don't oppose them fully, but they are not truly libertarian
If he wanted to go full libertarian he would have less strict border policy and cut entitlements, which would take care of a lot our immigration problems

1. Harass posters with a different opinion and call them melting cucks over and over again.
2. Have meaningful discussions with posters who have a different opinion.
Pick one.

It doesn't always account for perception/misperception.
