re: What the hell? Trump to propose govt funded Ivf for all women

For context, there are about 95,000 ivf live births a year out of about 160,000 attempts. The cost averages somewhere around 20,000.
it would cost 3.2 billion per year if there was no cost increase. Of course many more people will try IVF if it's free. Whatever the government subsidizes goes up in cost as well.
I think it's safe to say it's a 10 billion dollar a year program. And obviously it would be financed and we'd pay compounding interest on that amount. But unlike most of what we spend, we'd get something in return (200,000 Americans per year, assuming 2x as many people try ivf)

I’d rather have neither.
I like Trump and will vote for him, but I’m not going to pretend to want to pay for other people’s IVF. If you can’t afford it, you can’t afford a child.
Won’t be long before some bitch gets her free IVF then changes her mind.

I can live with it. We need good people who want to have children procreate.

Are we going to limit it to “good people”?

The OP is flatly wrong. Full Stop. Arguing that FACT with whataboutisms is dumb.
FYI, 60-65% of Americans are privately insured. Many plans already cover IVF. Some states already require it. Given the ACA mandated coverage of gynecological coverage for males and prostate coverage for females, IVF mandates within the ACA would seem to be a forgone conclusion. Would they not?

I see this as making it far more affordable for middle class families struggling with fertility issues to have kids. I don’t like federal subsidies in general, but this seems like a pretty positive program to support. We need the middle class to be able to afford to have more kids to stave off demographic decline, especially if we’re going to deport significant numbers of immigrants. This sounds like a step in the right direction to get families having more children.

That would be a terrible policy.
