You are missing the point. There are a lot of industries that rely on D's to keep them humming along, just like many rely on R's for the same. As an example tort attorneys are more concerned about the long-term effects on their industry than incremental shifts in taxes. Recessions are actually good for their business in most cases. D court appointments are good for their bottom line. Just like O&G will almost always vote for Rs.
The question was why do straight white males vote D. I proffer the majority of them that do are in an industry that benefits financially from Ds being in office.

Currently everyone is seeing and being impacted by inflation, gas prices, taxes, the stock market, etc. There is no logical argument that a vote for a democrat in 2022 is a vote with your pocketbook.

My best friend and business partner lives in London. Moved there in 09. He gives me perspective that is sometimes hard to digest. Western Europe is already gone. He lives in it and he remains in a state of incredulity.
His comments on the election were all despair and sadness. I told him I thought that Florida was a decent representation of the US overall. He said he didn’t believe me. He has an older sister in Connecticut who’s a doctor. She and all of her friends are so far gone that they won’t even consider visiting Florida. I mean, really? That’s an anecdotal example but I think it’s representative of something larger. I see a lean-to shed and a long, unkempt beard in my future.

Religion is a basis for morality. Absolute morality. Law, and therefore politics, is based in either absolute or relative morality. It's fairly linear to discern why the religious advocate and vote a certain way.

Probably not. The world and the US in particular has a lot of people convinced that the laws THEY want are somehow based on something much better than moral values. It’s those other people who want to “legislate morality”, not them. I thought philosophy was a silly elective when I took it in college but it should absolutely be taught at the high school level.
