What pushed the left to this insane level of mass hysteria they're caught up in?

The left has whipped itself into such a damn lathered up frenzy that they're shitting the floor about a damn kid's birthday puppy.
They literally think EVERYTHING is racist and EVERYONE that disagrees with them is a NAZI, and EVERYTHING this Administration does is literally going to cause people to keel over in the streets.
WTF happened to half our country that's they're basically functionally retarded? It's hard to believe that simply the election of Trump caused this. He was a virtual unknown outside of business/social circles and hell; these same people that hate him know helped make his TV show the #1 rated show on the airwaves.
I'll ask again, WTF happened to these people?

Trump beating H-Dawg, against all odds, with the fix in and everything, when it was guaranteed to be HER TURN, scared the shite out of them.
It scared the establishment RINOs as well.
To the core.
The curtain is being pulled back on their dirty little game, they are losing control, and they know it.
It's been said that if just 10% more of the black vote were to switch from D to R the Dems would never win another election, all the way down to Dog Catcher.
This economy, and Trump's thug-like take no shite attitude is risking that Dem base vote.
That's why the Dems are pushing the illegal alien border security thing so hard.
They are panicking like crazy in back rooms in DC.

they tried to insure that Hildabeast would win so that she could keep a lid on all the illegal sht that happened under BHO, didn't work and now they are terrified the truth will come out and they will all end up in jail or worse, they will blow this country up to try and keep it quite.

You can trace it directly back to the anti-bullying campaign of the early 2000's. It started out well meaning, until everything became bullying and everyone became a victim. Social justice used to be a good thing- keeping people acting normal, and calling out the weirdos. But ever since that time, you are a big meanie pants if you call out the weirdos, and they can pretend to be a girl, a boy, a lizard, etc and you are the one with a problem if you don't agree with it.
Now add in social media that gives everyone a voice, even people that should not be heard. And you end up with some real loonies out there that are loud and proud.

None of these things worked out how they thought they would. Also, I think most would agree that the ugliness that is displayed currently has always been there. The mask has just come off.

They're already a little off-center as it is. Seeing Hillary lose was such a shock to their systems that they began to believe that anything could and would happen. The fed each others fears. For the most part the left is made up of people who go through life scared. It's why security and being taken care of sounds so positive to them. Trump winning has just stirred their fears. It's funny and pitiful at the same time
