What is the selling point of the left?

I don't understand how being left became cool in this country. It makes no sense to me whatsoever. They have held up despots and Communist regimes, are for a more powerfully centralized leviathan, don't care about freedom of speech, religion, 4th amendment, hate the Bill of Rights, hate the fact that citizens have the right to self-defense, the list goes on and on.
I don't get what makes an ideology that is so restrictive to average, everyday people so appealing. Can anybody please explain this shite to me? And is there any way to really reverse the fact that the Left has essentially taken over every major industry in the country?
How is it not clear to anybody that the Left abhors America?

It's mostly the social conservatism that pushes people left. People that care/don't care about gay marriage, drug use, religion, porn usage, etc. are accepted by the left and condemned by the right.
I've been saying for years, if republicans would focus on the fiscal issues and lay off the social ones, democrats would never win another election in this country.

The left wing really doesn't have much of an appeal
That being said the right wing has a lot of pretty easy targets of ridicule that don't help their cause. The left only exists because of the stupidity of the right.
Problem is you don't win many elections by purging all the stupidity of your platform because as it turns out there are a lot of people who believe a lot of stupid things.

That's such an easy thing to beat though. They want more "equality" well they should go look at how great it was when everybody in Russia was equal. When they want the rich to pay their fair share, that "fair share" isn't going to the people, it's stolen by the politicians and they get richer.
Nobody thrives under the type of government that the Left wants, more people end up suffering unnecessarily because of it. Equality of outcome means equality of misery for everybody.

The psychology informs the philosophy. The damaged psychology PRECEDES the ideological side. Take a look at any Leftist and I will show you a deeply-wounded person motivated by resentment, and fueled by a deep psychological need to stick it to somebody. If your goal is to project your turmoil onto the broader society, and keep society in a state of agitation that reflects your deeply unharmonious state of mind, I'd imagine Leftism looks like a lifeline.

The Leftist philosophy allows one to trade a sense of personal responsibility for perpetual victimhood. This allows the individual (and/or group) more freedom in not accepting the consequences of their own actions and blame them on some anonymous "them".
