Are you still going on vacations? Going out to eat? Have you given up any luxuries in life? We Americans are so spoiled. Until people start sacrificing luxuries then is it really all that bad?

Well, considering health insurance goes up at least 10% every year that’s a pretty low estimate. This year my health insurance is only going up 11%, yay. My homeowners only went up $25 last year so I’m sure that will increase. We recently started budgeting an extra $30 a week for groceries and gas is up about 70%. That seems like more than 3% to me.

i was 10 when we left the gold standard, i'm 65 now. the S&P was 107 on its close in 1971 yesterday it closed at 7718 up 800 points YTD and gold is down $1400 dollars an ounce since it's all time high earlier this year. imagine what we'd be saying about the S&P if it were down over 30% this year. gdp in 1971 was 1.15 trillion, today it's 33.5 trillion and median income $87,460 is at an all time high and ron paul is an idiot.

Can you do the djia over that time

The djia stands for Dow jones inflation average

So inflation is 10%, 11%, $25/year, $30/week, 70%.

Expect prices to double from here if Trump starts bombing Iran again. Not being hyperbolic

Seems odd that you do your routine of pointing out someones possible financial situation, implicating that you have a better situation, and then you go on and say you shop at Walmart and pay attention to exact price per pound of some of the lowest quality supply chain products of any supermarkets. Sounds a bit of empty rhetoric to build up your lackluster self image

the reason that i remembered the chicken price is because that same chicken routinely sold for $2.97 a pound pre covid and got as high as $4.00 a pound during covid. so i was genuinely shocked. especially when i see you poors everyday on this board complaining about how they can't afford gas and groceries.

not that it matters but i'm about to spend $17.00 a pound for smoked turkey at terri lynnes delicatessen but it's really great, smoked turkey and i'm making kentucky browns tonight and it makes a huge difference.

by the way it's someone's not someones.

Besides ground beef/beef and coffee what else has doubled?

Yeah, when corned beef brisket is priced where ribeye used to be, that is a massive increase.

Little Debbie
Sushi
Fruits and Vegetables
Gas
Prices in my hood have almost doubled in property taxes
Insurance
Utilities
Etc
Etc

Even if not, I was a grown up for the Oil Shocks of the 1970's

I remember home mortgages in the 18% to 22% range

We plowed up the back yard and did an old fashioned Victory Garden

Bought non perishables and stored them in the basement

Having lived through that, it can (and probably will) get MUCH worse.

Watched Detroit Heavy Metal sedans replaced by tin can imports from Asia almost overnight.

Now we have SUV's, not exactly gas sippers.

FWIW, the 1970's was the transfer of USA industrial wealth as a decade in the entire history of the United States. Back then we were savers, this go round we are debtors.

Having lived in Arkansas and visiting a poultry house, I have stopped eating chicken unless it is local and I know the farmer.

I eat beef, pork, fish, lamb, goat, and wild game from the country

no jethro it's stands for dow jones industrial average, when i got my series 7 in july of 1983 the dow was at 1213.93. yesterday 51,916.

someone made a comment on this board a couple months ago that the entire growth in the dow was nothing more than inflation. it might have been you, you're stupid enough to think something like that.

if that were true, then that 1213.93 close in july of 83, would have the dow siting today at 4094 instead of 51,916.

sure but if you actually live in alaska which i doubt every thing in that unpopulated schithole is expensive because it's all imported, fyi bought ground round yesterday for $4.99 a pound at edwards in little rock. it's a local grocery, they always have stuff on sale.

coastal Mississippi now, you don't want to know Alaska prices....much worse, especially in the villages

Just checked: between $6/7 dollars pound at the local walmart

Between 7-8 a pound in Anchorage at the moment

Name the USA company that did not raise their price once in roughly 60 years?

Name another USA company that did not raise their price once in about half that time?

The great thing about this is that it could have been used verbatim by the most ardent prog during the Biden administration.

and yet here you are complaining about the price of groceries at your advanced age, i'm 65 for what it's worth it's on my profile i've mentioned that in this thread, if you're older than me that's a tough spot to be in maybe you can become a walmart greeter!

To be fair the DJIA has jumped the shark after the 1980's and really jumped after the 2008 meltdown.

If you used to follow Vale Line, then you understand linear regression and beta values. Even understanding this, you could not match their data values. Same with DJIA, as the timing and values for dropping and adding and how they are weighted in the DJIA is kept hazy so you can not really tell what the number means anymore.
