I wonder if that was the only name it ever had in all of history. If any natives thought it should be named anything else. Hmmmm

s it just national pride, or some further goal like bypassing anti-drilling laws/regs regarding the "Gulf of Mexico?"

This whole land mass surrounding the gulf is North America, Trump didn't re-name the damn thing "The Gulf of the United States"

if we're paying to protect of the gulf, then it should be named accordingly.

From Grok:

Before 1895, Mount McKinley was known by its indigenous Athabaskan name, Denali, which means "the high one" or "the great one" in the local Koyukon language. The mountain, located in Alaska, had been called Denali by the native peoples for centuries before it was renamed Mount McKinley in 1896 by a gold prospector, William Dickey, in honor of President William McKinley. The name Denali was officially restored in 2015 by the U.S. government, reflecting a return to its original indigenous designation. So, prior to 1895, it was simply Denali.

What is the goal of your question? Was that the best question you could come up with?

This - it’s a distraction so smooth brains keep talking about it while he does other things.

The oil drilling angle is dumb - Trump can just rescind the bans - he doesn’t need to rename it to slyly get around the band.

It was named something else, before the Eskimos called it Denali.

Its a power move

Like Trump Tower vs the Hilton. Both are recognized hotels, but people would notice if one changed its name to the other. It signifies which one is gaining ground

*whooosh*

The whole point of my comment is that "Denali" came from somewhere too. Why did the Inuits name it that?? Was it always named that? Where there other names lost to history?

Why do we cut it off arbitrarily at 1895 and say "no more name changes allowed"?
