Caucus member Jeff Sessions (R.-Al.) spoke of the need to foster ”knowledge that this drug is dangerous, you cannot play with it, it is not funny, it’s not something to laugh about… and to send that message with clarity that good people don’t smoke marijuana.”

Goddamn, send this this guy back to 1950.

We'll see how much of a "States Rights" conservative he is here shortly.

Can't have it both ways on states rights. Education is the role of the state. Should the federal government mandate that the state of Iowa check citizenship before providing education? A true states rights advocate would say it's the federal government's job to secure the border and check that before they arrived...not the job of state and local school officials.

well it's easy

pre-Wickard, to enact a federal ban on a drug, you needed a constitutional amendment (see: prohibition)

post-Wickard, to enact a federal ban on a drug, you just needed to pass a law

Why couldn't this archaic, far right winger been given just a role on immigration if that is what Trump wants him to do?

His stances on basically everything else are fricking terrible. Him at AG, for many reasons not just the WoD, has me really pissed off.

He's everything the people in my generation who want to vote Republican hate about Republicans. fricking awful appointment.

err, he has been very vocal about what he values, and he says he likes loyalty.

Sessions pick is a giant frick you to anyone who wants to see change. he will be a very traditional conservative AG. He is not going to reform shite. he isn't going to clean house on anything, he is going to run the AG like it was 1982.

And what is truly interesting about this pick is that sessions back trump due to immigration, and while the AG tangentially touches immigration, its just tangential.

exactly

just when it looked like the GOP could turn a corner and get the demographic advantage (while the DEMs went off into extremist land), they go back to Bush-esque shite like this. the GOP is just terrible...absolutely terrible

exactly

real impact on immigration would be the head of ICE or maybe HLS, not the AG

Because everyone that says smoking marijuana is a person's decision and not the state's is totally a pot head. Logic went out the window for you in grade school I assume?

I hope Sessions is brutal and hamfisted against MJ, and that Congress passes a law removing it from the controlled substances.

If you think a law is retarded, ruthlessly enforce it. This fugue state that MJ is in is bad for everyone.

I don't give a frick about pot, either, but this type of news is disturbing to the young libertarian centipedes who supported Trump. I guess this is the bad side of the law and order president deal.

In what universe were you living where you thought Trump was remotely libertarian?

This. My cautious optimism of the Donald Trump administration is rapidly fading. Meet the new boss. The same as the old boss.

Historically, he is socially liberal.

And just appointed the fricking opposite of that to AG.
