Common sense tells me it's just a cautious way to mine coal. Someone arguing with me asked me what it was I just pointed to a Wikipedia but had nothing definitive it's all published by naysay media propoganda and whatnot

clean coal is the method by which coal is burned where they scrub 99.8% of the CO2 released.

thanks for playing.

Hard coal with low sulphur. The other is soft coal. Bituminus and Anthrocite but I can't remember which is which.

Clean coal is a funny because dumbass liberals dont understand that coal powers the plant that charges their electric cars

Coal sucks as a power source just because of the residual material that you have to deal with like fly ash. I don't care if it's used but it's not the best choice.

There are a variety of technologies being tested, CCS being the most prominent.

Clean coal is where coal is burned and the CO2 is trapped before it hits the atmosphere (usually shuttled underground I believe).

Coal's biggest problem is that natural gas is kicking its arse cost wise.

The other problem is solar. I've seen wholesale solar electric prices lately that are beating any thermal (fossil and nuke) generation.

Which is all fine, but if safe, we should continue to use it (and all other safe energy sources), rather than select 1 or 2 types that are politically chosen.

The left will claim that it is a racist oxymoron.

It is abundant as frick, though.

And, the land in which surface mining is done ... looks way better after the fact. EPA and such.

I think the president understands that coal is not the future, but he's also not going out of his way to kick them in the nuts either. We're still working on all kinds of other technologies, including stuff that the greenies like. My philosophy is this . . . use whatever technologies and resources are most efficient and do NOTHING to choke the supply. PERIOD. There are no other considerations.

Sort of like "Green Energy".

No power source is "safe", really. Like I said, I don't mind if it's used, it's just not the most efficient method.

You mean through reclamation?

if im wrong then so be it, by all means link something and ill concede, but i think that 99.8 youre referring to is a certain method of carbon capture, and theres no coal plant using that. theres not even one planned, as far as i know.

Is that worse than the toxic chemicals and heavy metals you have to deal with in solar cell manufacturing.

Ideally the coal with the highest carbon content. It has the highest energy output and the lowest amount of impurities and produces the least waste when burned. Anthracite is typically what this is called, it's also called "hard coal" it usually has a carbon percentage content in the mid to high 90's.

Bituminous is called "soft coal", has a carbon content percentage usually in the low to mid 80's. A lot more waste and a lot more pollution.

Then there's Black Lignite - stuff is crap, low energy, high sulfur.

---

Mostly what you hear from like the speech is more talking about a process to limit the pollutants and material waste associated with burning coal.

---

Oh, the things you learn growing up in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
