Not far from the truth. If you make poorness undesirable, maybe people would avoid it more. If people weren’t shielded from the unpleasant results of their poor choices, they’d probably put more effort into avoiding those poor choices.

Only to the extent they were intellectually capable.

The unfortunate truth is, the percentage of the US citizenry that cannot avoid making poor decisions is growing larger every year.

I'd prefer that more people's tax liability essentially be zero,

Disagree

We can't all be on the same page making decisions on whether a new tax is justified if some aren't paying.

Everyone needs to pay.

I’d trade them 70% tax on those making 20 million or more in ordinary income for something I really wanted like National ID Cards or the Wall

I wouldn't, even if those were things I wanted.

I agree with this completely. (So long as income tax were constitutionally abolished).

The only exemptions should be foods that don’t come in the Cheeto aisle, medications, and real estate.

I think any securities regulated by the SEC should be subject to a sales tax.

Progressive income tax is ludicrous and unfair and should be abolished. Nobody can decide what income is, or what it means. The only fair way to do it is sales tax. It’s the one thing that wouldn’t be avoidable. It’s horse shite to me that people can vote to place their tax liability on someone else.

How about just not give them any money to begin with?

You do understand that the large majority of the bottom 50% have jobs and aren’t bums? Maybe we should just eat the poor.

ETA: if you’re referring to the EITC that’s a conversation worth having. I may be misunderstanding your statement.

Not much

Rich people that buy lots of shite pay lots more taxes.

23% sales tax with Healthcare cards added in for the impoverished. How would that help States though? Does that mean cops will be pulling people over a lot more in every city to try to make up the missing sales tax money? More property tax?

Do away with federal income tax.
Charge a $5,000 dollar yearly citizenship fee to every able bodied person over 18 and under 60.
Don't want to pay? That's OK, you can do 60 days at a work camp instead.

Yes, serious question.

I'm not an expert on poor people.

He'll yeah. Auschwitz in da house. Also, debtors prison in da house. This country will be a mix of the England that we broke away from and Nazi Germany as well. Super dope.

It would be neither. It would be your choice, because you didn't want to pay your part.

You would be volunteering.
It would also give you a chance to learn a skill, that will help you earn a living.
Things like: stretching out concertina wire along the Southern Border, setting up and arming claymore Mines along The Southern Border, clearing brush along The Southern Border, digging latrines for troops along The Southern Border...

That's because we've removed most of the consequences of those poor decisions.

That's why Liberals will never be for it.

When they say the wealthy doesn't pay their fair share , they actually mean "we are jealous of the wealthy , they should be punished".

Except death. Which seems to be mostly affecting people who used to be self-sufficient before globalization ushered in our vibrant "new" economy. Then those people started making really poor decisions involving easily obtainable painkillers.

The real problem is that we continue to import millions who have multigenerational track records of making poor decisions to replace them.
