re: What does Jimmy Kimmel's Kids Heart Problem have to do with ObamaCare?

It's a sob story. Tugs at heartstrings and supposedly Obamacare would take care of all of it. Of course, those same people would have to put up a $10-$15k deductible, plus a 50% co-insurance, but hey...Ocare is great!!!
Which plans have a deductible higher than the federal out of pocket maximum limit?

Not reading the whole thread, but as the parent of a kid with congenital heart defect who has had four open heart surgeries, I do worry about how he'll get coverage once he's off of our insurance. Now, I started a medical savings account for him when he was born, but I doubt I'll have a few million in there to cover the potential enormous costs of his healthcare when he's an adult, but it's better than nothing.
I don't think there is an easy solution, but I have no faith that the government will find one.

I don't think jimmy would qualify to be in the 20-25 million it covers/covered.
His situation is dramatic, but nobody lets kids die. An uninsured kid would find his way to a peds hospital that's charity. An insured family would not even have cost discussed. Surgery just gets done. Of course the aftermath and the 100,000 dollar out of pocket bill an insured family may get after "coverage" is a separate discussion.
These are kids. Not dogs. As a dad you may have "oh shite the bill?" Creep into your mind at some point, but it only creeps in. Total focus would be on your son with his chest cracked open

Link on your claims like you said you had?

New amendment to GOP health bill effectively allows full elimination of community rating, exposing sick to higher premiums
First off, what the bill effectively allows for states is not what the bill proposes. The ACHA maintains PEC protections, as you know.
Secondly, states can obtain limited waivers. But to obtain those, a host of conditions must be met. The waivers could include rate leveling for PEC vs non-PEC policies, but they have to demonstrate coincident reduction in premium costs, increasing the number of people insured, or results otherwise benefiting the state’s public interest.
i.e., if current ACA policies hypothetically cost $10000/yr, and a state changes law and competition so that the price of an identical non-PEC policy drops to $6000/yr and deductions are cut in half, but PEC policies remain unchanged at $10K, that would be in the public good.
Sadly, you'd claim to hate the unleveling even though it wouldn't cost the PEC individual one extra cent.

I'm still waiting on a link from you. Have it yet?
While we wait, are you denying that you made the claim that you can't possess a car without a license and without registering it?

Well considering that deductibles went up more than anything it would be a bad number for the ACA.
That's why he avoids deductible discussions like the plague.

Likewise. This is ongoing from you. Ignore it if you want. I won't.
I've backed up everything I've said. If you don't deny saying it, that's even better than a link.

This is untrue. Please provide a link to substantiate what you've said.

So, no. You know you said it.
Glad we're done with that.
Still waiting on that link...

You made a claim, then failed to provide any evidence. I'm glad we can agree that you've retracted it.
Now, as you'll see earlier in the thread your asked-for link was provided.
Glad we're done with that.

And on and on and on...
Poverty can't be ended with so many parents that shouldn't be having kids
I'd argue that the biological imperative to have children is nearly impossible to overcome; therefore I'd change the "Don't have kids" to "If you have kids be prepared to suffer the shortcomings of your circumstances". Not everyone is entitled to the same outcomes in a free, capitalist society.
That being said the cost of care in this country is out of control (pre and post ACA)....we need to find a solution.

No, it wasn't. You have never provided that link and never will. We both know it's nonsense and no such link exists.

Well, we need to find a solution that works. The ACA isn't that solution.

I'm saying the claims you made about my statements were false, and your inability to provide evidence backs that up.

17,000 Child Deaths Linked to Lack of Insurance

Not true, no hospital across the United States is letting a child die.
