nuclear, specifically SMRs

These only make sense when a natural gas well or natural gas pipeline or a coal mine is not near your facility.

Natural gas and coal are about $60/MW-h and these SMRs are more than double the cost.

if you’re going to mention cold fusion, it should be mandatory that you include a picture of Elisabeth Shue.

Nuclear and solar are the only ones that make sense. But I hate the idea of solar farms. They take up way too much space for limited return. Most homes and businesses should have solar roofing in the future though, depending on climate of course.

Nuclear is the only source that can handle our grid.

Hydro and solar have their applications on smaller scales.

Wind… not sure about its feasibility even on the coasts.

This and for now, only this.

Need to get over the risks and just keep progressing the species.

There are designs for nuclear fission that are meltdown proof. That and manufactured small modular reactors.

I always got laughed at here when I discussed peak oil, but I still think there is not going to be any industrial civilization in 50 years. Nothing is as portable and energy dense as oil. I don't know how we are going to move goods around the planet the way we do now without it. And that doesn't take into account its use in all products, including pesticides.

To keep the lights on, I pray we have enough natural gas and coal for decades. If not, we better start firing up nukes because solar and wind are not going to run the planet. Also, we need natural gas for fertilizers to feed everyone. We literally eat fossil fuels at this point.

Natural gas will continue as main source for a long time with nuclear eventually taking over.

Peak oil is real. Even though they keep finding major deposits, it will eventually run out.

Natural gas by a long shot for the next 30 years.

You would need to replace the existing gas power plants but the next decade or so of build out that’s taking place. That’s not going to happen over night.

Hydrogen has real promise. It may be an intermediate step till we get fusion power.

Matter/Anti matter reactors are a ways off.

Drill Yellowstone and tap geothermal and help prevent the big one.

Multiple sources is correct.

I'm not sure a lot of people really understand how efficient modern generation natural gas plants are.
