It’s both. Our food is poison compared to what I’ve had in Europe. people who care about their health shouldn’t get punished for trying to eat a healthier diet. That doesn’t mean it will reduce obesity and its the governments responsibility to do so.

Everyone has the information at their fingertips to have a healthy diet at his very moment.

People choose poison. We need to stop trying to save these people.

His post was agreeing with you (I think) but it was a little hard to tell.

EBT/SNAP should only pay for healthy foods and not create another generation of obese diabetics who die way too young.

How would you define 'health foods' for these purchases? Also, that will make the EBT costs go up. Steak is a lot healthier than Doritos.

I’ve read/heard it’s not just boxed and canned products, it’s all protein and even fresh produce so that’s more what I was referring to. Most of the time it’s to increase shelf life of the products.

Exactly. Especially those on the board pushing for grass-fed beef at Mickey D’s.

Expose corporate Ag for pushing unhealthy food. Persuade the Senate or nothing happens.

This is not true. The US dietary guidelines have been a disaster but they are taught in schools and by law it's mandatory that they guide menus for school lunches, military dining, hospitals, etc. The information at people's finger tips is what's killing them, along with the mandate to follow it.

Pre 1970's most people had never seen a MacDonald's except urbanites. The vast majority of fast food was short order restaurants and seed oils were commonly used, hydrogenated seed oils at that which is so a pre WWII staple. Everyone just called it cooking oil. Most of the public hadn't seen any olive oil.

The vast majority of the public ate away from home as a treat, maybe once a month. I was lucky that my family did it once a week. If you didn't live in at least a small city it was a short order diner.

All of you goobers are falling for scam "science"

With food? They are self imploding because they have strayed from their cultural ways of the past that made them what they once were. It's an impossible task to have harmony when there is too much diversity. I know if someone moves into my house they will adapt to my ways, not vice versa.

People need good choices to make though. Right now it's like choosing the lesser of the evil. Why do we have to make evil choices at all?

Food just isn't the same as it was 50 years ago. Even the raw ingredients you buy from the store aren't the same. So much is done to the food by the time it hits the stores, that you have no choice.

Many perhaps most seed oils may be banned. Evidence is piling up most are NOT good for you.

Change the "food pyramid". Since it was changed to recommend that ~60% of one's daily caloric intake come from carbohydrates obesity has shot up.

Plus of course changes in the chemicals allowed to be added to food, especially processed food.

Absolutely not. If you can type on a keyboard, you have access to the same dietary info that dieticians do.

Saving incompetent people is how we got where we are. The nanny state is a direct afront to natural evolution.

I agree with this. But it being EBT I don’t care if govt is “nanny state” about it. I really don’t disagree with any of the posters in here. Roger, I see your opinion also and understand it. Same with Staggs. Thats why I wanted to hear more opinions from posters here. I don’t want full blown nanny state but I don’t know enough about these bad chemicals either. You try and research it and get pulled in so many different directions
