What can realistically be done if California goes rogue?

I don't think in this day and age violence would be used in either direction. California as a state is not going to violently attack the feds and the feds won't attack California either. Nobody really wants that.

The leadership is now openly and flagrantly breaking federal law and daring to be arrested. They will use any such arrests to try to paint themselves as victims and martyrs. Maybe you do it, maybe you don't. There are meta considerations.

So if California (or any other state for that matter) goes rogue what is done? Stop all Federal funding going towards them for everything is obvious. But what else? Massive economic sanctions (restrict imports/exports) to the state, stuff like that?

Big Beautiful Wall.

Any state wanting their independence should be granted such.

Bam! 2 Senators and 52 Representatives... GONE! (46/54 are Dems)

The same way the states in the civil war did. Basically just tell the Federal government they don't care what they say and they'll do whatever they want.

States are required to obey federal laws. States can challenge a federal law as unconstitutional, but if that law is found constitutional states are required to obey it.

If a state starts openly breaking federal law and refuses to, what would the wisest Federal response be to bring them in line?

Let them secede.

First step should be extending them the opportunity to leave the Union if they’re that unsatisfied with its laws.

Probably the same thing as when the Confederate states went rogue.

The southern states should have been allowed to secede.

A part of their land is all of ours - Yosemite, Redwood, Sequoia National Parks; all of the military installations in California.

They aren’t leaving without paying for all of those somehow. If not….

Just like Sumter and Pickens in 1861.

Didn't Lincoln assemble a massive federal army to invade the South when they seceded. Looks like Trump can take military action against California.

I would prefer them to leave the U.S., however they will just become a foothold for the CCP in North America.

Therefore we will have to give them the W.T. Sherman treatment.

Sounds a lot like the Trump administration. Irony at its finest.
