The hardware purchase is paid via loan. Like every loan, Israel pays it back with interest. This is nothing new.

I don't know of any other loan where the lender provides both the cash and the product for which the loan is given to purchase. I am aware that we have given Israel weapons many times, and they've paid us back, but I've never heard of giving them money to buy the weapons. Why not just give them the weapons, and then let them pay it off? The weapons, themselves, should be the loan.

Here it is direct from the Israel Policy Institute, a pro-Israel group:

quote:

Most U.S. security assistance to Israel falls under the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program.
Israel is a recipient of U.S. FMF, which functions as a grant that a foreign country then must use to purchase weapons and other military platforms manufactured in the United States.

And the corroborating LINK

Do you know what a grant is, little angry man?

I see, the article is behind a paywall. You could just add the info to the OP instead of being a douche about it.

If this "sale" goes through its Israel buying them with the military aid we already give. That's all you had to say.

What we need to do is get rid of military grants to Israel. So everyone needs to take these steps.

Contact your House representative and both senators. Tell them specifically you want U.S. Foreign Military Financing grants to Israel eliminated or phased out, while preserving Israel's ability to purchase U.S. weapons with its own money.

Ask how they voted on the FY2026 Israel-aid appropriations. There was already a House attempt to remove the $3.3 billion in annual military assistance.

Pay attention to the FY2027 appropriations process. That's where Congress can actually decide whether to appropriate additional FMF.

Make it an issue in primaries and general elections. Ask candidates a very simple question: “Would you vote to continue taxpayer-funded military grants to Israel, or would you require Israel to purchase American weapons with its own money?” Then vote based on their answer and your other priorities.

Don't limit the question to Israel if your actual principle is broader. If you believe foreign countries generally should pay for their own wars, tell candidates that. That makes the position about U.S. foreign-aid policy, rather than about Israel specifically.

I'm surprised to see you make a thread that doesn't have something to do with Hunter Biden. I mean, this one sucks and is stupid too, but this is progress.

As long as we don't give them back to Israel or ship them to Ukraine.

It’s a shame that Trump is giving 2.8 billion dollars worth of bombs to Israel when we have so many American cities that they could be better used on

I went to Congress.Gov & it's a mess to say the least. Not nearly as bad as Google that basically admonished me about even thinking it was a loan.

quote:

Section 11208(c) reauthorizes loan guarantees to Israel through 2030; and Section 11208(d) reauthorizes annual monetary caps for U.S. additions to the War Reserve Stockpile for Allies program, including the stockpile in Israel, through FY2027 (at $500 million per year). P.L. 119-4 did not include an accompanying explanatory statement specifying defense funding allocations at the line-item level.

Here's a link to Foreign Aid to Israel on Congress.Gov. Unfortunately, the appropriate hotlink leads to the entire HR1968. If you want to pour over all of that, be my guest.

Though described as a sale, the transaction is financed through a mechanism known as Foreign Military Financing, in which the United States provides the money that Israel uses to buy the weapons.
That's fricking disgusting.

I don’t know how I feel about it to be honest. I’m down for degrading US enemies through proxies. I’d maybe like to see this 2.8 split into 1.4 for Israel and 1.4 for Ukraine

Pretty sure we’re Israel’s proxy otherwise they would be the ones doing all the dirty work.

1) I'm 6' 3" so not too little.

2) I'm the farthest thing from angry, but after a decade of watching the corrupt political system try to destroy a true outsider in multiple ways I have lost my patience with people who still act like they've completely missed the entire "adventure."

3) My favorite Grant is Hugh Grant, although that's mostly because the only other Grant I know is Ulysses S., and I'm not too fond of him. (Hugh Grant is surprisingly very funny, though, although most Englishmen are funny. He has terrible taste in hookers, though).

PS - Who are you taking between LSU and Ole Miss?
