Cliff notes: US forms new military alliance with UK and Australia, called AUKUS.
Australia will build 8 new nuclear missle subs, using technology provided by the US.
Australian subs likely to be based on US designs, something that has only happened once before in history. The US has shared nuke technology with the UK in the past, but not to this extent.
Australia expands nuclear arsenal and can be expected to expand air arm as well.
US gets "Many" new military bases in Australia, you can expect UK to share.
The table getting stacked against China.

I saw some headlines saying France was furious. but why? were they in the running for this too or something and Australia was picked instead?
I don't have any issue with this on the surface. but yeah.. Japan should be involved as well (I think). Australia isn't going to do shite when China starts rocking the boat.. but hey.. neither are we.. so what does it matter, I guess.

I heard earlier that France had already won the submarine contracts and the Australian government backed out of the deal to sign with the US once the nuclear technology became available.
