we risk mutation of Covid 19 into a form that's far more deadly, as happened in 1918.
Well, I talk about this in some of these threads.
What was different about 1918? Certainly your point about the immunity/no immunity - there was a very deadly second wave. 1918 was, actually, a H1N1 "swine" flu. The younger cohorts took it in the shorts because there was a similar, but milder, pandemic in the late 19th century that protected the older folks, but the younger folks did not have that exposure.
Because of The Great War, the "Spanish flu" was different in many, many ways. All major Western military powers knew about the pandemic relatively early, but all had to be circumspect (or outright repressive to journalists) over concerns about civilian and military morale and just security concerns, generally. Each side was suspicious of the other because of concerns of biological warfare.
And finally, just the reversal of what normally happens - normally, during a pandemic, those with severe cases stay put (or are hospitalized) so the most severe cases spread within/among families and within hospitals. Relatively mild strains are spread more widely by those who are asymptomatic or have mild cases. Because of the war, living conditions at the front and in other military encampments were perfect for spreading this disease. Once spread, instead of staying in place, military authorities sought to protect their healthy combat power, so the most sick among the troops were packed onto trains and taken away from training sites or the front. So, the most virulent strains were spread by a flip of the normal preference.
None of that is in place here, except for the ill-headed notion of sending positive cases back to nursing homes where they are sure to spread and kill. For the most part, there is an "overawareness" of the disease and sick people are, by and large, not spreading the disease, except to their own families. The relatively mild or asymptomatic cases are spreading and the current (and rapidly) declining death rates straight up proves that concept.

In 1918, the Spanish Flu went around the world, infecting many, making millions ill, for a full year. Then it mutated, and the mutated form killed 50 million people.
The original population who became ill on it's first trip around the world were effectively immune to the mutated form - they developed B cells which have a memory to epitopes on the mutated form that existed on the earlier form - parts of the viral coat that DIDN'T mutate.
Those so vigorously avoiding exposure risk mutation. At the end of the day, the mass protests of largely young people are doing us a great favor.

I don’t think I need a mask, and I don’t care if others don’t wear one. However, I wear it for other people’s peace of mind, and since I’m not a sociopath, I’m fine with that.

A guy just called in on the “Rick and Bubba Show” and said ....”If my underwear and pants can’t hold in a fart... how can you expect a mask to hold in a virus. I’m not wearing a mask “
LOL

Congratulations you are exercising your American rights to think and do freely.. you want a cookie?? The whole argument against the mask is the possibility of being forced to wear it.. the “wear the mask or else”campaign ... it began as a suggestion and is slowly but surely becoming a social norm.. mask are liberal propaganda. You are a gump for your feeble attempt to sound like some woke bureaucrat.

It is about stopping droplets. The guys should have talked about what would happen if he shite his pants.

Even if it only helps at a 20% clip...that's still better than zero you ******* idiot.
Wow, so angry.
20% is better than what? It helps slow the spread by 20%? Why is that a better thing? We aren't currently at a risk of running out of materials or overburdening our hospital system. So, why do you want to spread slowed and this prolonged longer?
re: Wearing masks is retardedPosted by OccamsStubble on 6/30/20 at 9:29 am to TSmith
Many don't believe we 'should be stopping droplets' unless you are in the proximity of the at-risk. The at-risk should be masking.
Why is this so difficult to understand? Not to mention, healthy people wearing masks puts them at risk for a host of other negative health issues.

How’d that work out for China? Stopped the spread?
I think welding people inside their homes and the government rounding people up off the streets stopped the spread, if you even believe any of the numbers being reported out of China

Maskless people are infecting masked people. Masked people aren't infecting maskless people.
The likelihood of masked people infecting massless people is reduced through some transmission routes. It’s ridiculous to say “masked people aren’t infecting massless people.”

Viruses get less deadly when they mutate. Why you ask? A virus’ goal, like all life, is to stay alive and reproduce. If it kills its hosts, it’s killing itself. When a virus mutates, it’s actually getting weaker so it can infect more hosts and spread.

It’s already run its course. You can pretend you are exerting your control over nature. You’re not.

I'll try again:
The 99% of people who are not at risk of death should welcome being exposed. Exposure = Immunity = Moving from LOW risk to NO risk to others who are at risk
And, your contention that maskless people are infecting masked people is wrong.
Grab yourself an advanced degree in immunology. Go to work in the type of containment labs where these agents are studied. Then, get back to me.

Because there is a lot of evidence that viral load plays a role in mortality.
What does this have to do with how quickly it spreads?

We are coming into what, almost 4 months into this? Yea the "mitigation" phase is over.
