Amazing how it changed life for everyday americans as well, the interstate, suburban living, the largest expansion of an economy ever in the history.

But here are some quirky changes. Before the war the US was still reeling from the depression so cutting corners wherever they could, and it was still largely rural. Both of these factors meant health care was less than ideal for the average American. During the war the US armed services pulled 15 million teeth...thats a lotta teeth.

The History Channel is horrible. Instead of being about events that shaped history it's all about reality tv crap or The Food That Built America marathons every stinking Sunday.

Could not agree with you more. We must as a people face this fact of history however difficult it might be.

Bass Tiger, thanks for the heads up on NewsMax. I'll check it out.
My grandfather came in at Utah, and was involved in i think 3 major battles. I know Normandy and Battle of the Bulge but I don't recall the 3rd.
He died before I was really old enough to ask him questions, but I was told he never talked about it much at all.

They were fighting for the same financial system that Germany had liberated themselves from. I would rather have goose stepping then pride parades.

The Greatest Generation on the longest day.

My dad chased subs in the North Atlantic mainly. He was blasting the Nazi shoreline that long day.

God bless these brave men and their families.

The networks started catering to yuppies and gentrifiers making them believe renovating your home or eating at a fine restaurant is the apex of human civilization.

I imagine if blacks or gays died en masse at Normandy the History Channel would be non stop praising their contributions today.

I toured the beaches in '07. After reading pretty much everything out there about the landings, nothing can truly prepare you for what they were up against.

If you were to ask a master tactician to create a landscape that would be the most well defended, he'd create something that looked a lot like Omaha beach.

Looking upon it boggled the mind. How anyone made it all the way in is just astounding.

At one point in time... Americans were truly something special.

My first wife's grandfather took his own life 10 years after returning from Belgium in the war, he couldn't deal with normal life and developed some risky habits, mainly gambling.

I don't see how a young man could go through actual battle and not be damaged for life.

Many returned stateside and did things like form 1% motorcycle clubs. I cannot blame them. You create adrenaline junkies for life, in war.

So, you don’t think that the last people discovering that slavery was outlawed in the United States is something worth celebrating?

… and to think that we had an American President that referred to neo-Nazis as “fine people” while he was President not long ago.

Kind of crapped on D-Day, eh?

Kind of like considering George Floyd a hero.

Too bad your ancestors didn't get goose stepped to Treblinka. That way your nazi loving arse wouldn't be here to defile the gene pool.
