The risk is of political nature, not ethical or legal. Trump hasn't invoked executive privilege and even if he did it wouldn't hold up in court.

Exactly. The question can be answered. Sessions doesn't want to, just like Holder didn't want to. Yet a lot of people are going to be inconsistent in their criticisms.

remember coats last week. I have no legal basis not to answer this, but I am just not going to answer it.

it's potentially a major issue, legally/ethically

Congress has a mechanism to address this: hold him in contempt and let the legal teams argue it out. if he's wrong, he'll have to spill it

And Holder was deserving of criticism for it, and so should Sessions. For god's sake people they work for us! We either want government transparency and accountability or we don't. It was not justified for Holder and it shouldn't be now. If it isn't executive privilege answer the damn questions.

What's good for the dems is good for the republicans. Problem is, dems were ACTUALLY hiding something. Repbulicans are not (at least in this case). All of this is a joke.

Just like Rogers and Coats did last week and Rosenstein did earlier today. Lots of people are keeping their traps shut about their conversations with the President.

CNN won't be covering this. They all think Sessions and Trump will be cuffed and jailed after this. It is surreal and beyond ridiculous.

Who knows if there's anything to hide, but it's not a good look to refuse to answer a question with no legal basis. This isn't a standard court case. This is the leadership of the country and they're not being transparent at a time when there's no law to hide behind.

That's my problems with this forum and same for liberal forums. There's major hypocrisy and inconsistency. If this was an AG for Obama everyone would be screaming but it's okay because it is the GOP.

Government officials get away with this shite because the people let them, we've reached such hyper-partisanship that people are loathe to criticize their own. People's identities become too wrapped up in it, it's like people are cheering for their favorite sports team.

It isn't executive privilege and the people have a right to know so just answer the questions.

if there is no legal basis, Congress can hold contempt hearings and we can hear the legal arguments

claiming something like this, that strongly, is a fool's errand
