Send directionless men to the front lines? Come home a hero or in a box.

That's certainly a dark thought on a sunny afternoon. Yikes!

The UK’s government during WWI purposely deployed young men from towns where opposition parties were more popular to more dangerous parts of the Western front to kill off political opponents.

No.
World war one caused Britain to lose a generation of young men.
The world wars created a different meaning of war.
I don't think people can imagine the horrors that were seen in world War 1. I mean now days some millennial can suffer from ptsd because of being misgendered.
Trench warfare was simply running straight into machine gun fire.

But it is a good way of reshaping perspectives.
If the draft and conventional war was on the horizon, how do you think the tranny stuff would go down? Safe spaces? Critical theory or DEI? Egality sans effort?

Robert McNamera kind of thought so with Project 100,000.

The soldiers use to get the spoils of war. Now they get trinkets, the tax payers fund the war and suffer the inflation, and everything of value goes to the top 1% who own the companies that go in behind to profiteer.

War?
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing.

I had a professor in college who insisted that the Crusades were pumped up just to get meddlesome knights out of Europe.

Notice how wars are spaced out 20-30 years
Gives time to build up population of fighting age boys/ men

The didn't want people that could think for themselves on that 'mectin. They wanted to you take the magic beans they told you to take and not axe questions.

Before the Pope sent them all off to fight with the Byzantines the knights were fighting with commoners. It's probably not too far off the mark.

It depends on when, and which war you're talking about, but yes, absolutely.
It's also what the colonies were for. All the way back to Roman times.
