The giant ISPs are already not in rural communities because it's tremendous capital investment for a smaller customer base. Regional players may be shitty and slow but they are gradually filling the role and will inevitably do it far more cost-efficiently than the government.

Rural access is a problem (moreso for businesses than personal use) but this initiative is just transparent pandering to a voter group she has no existing traction with.

It makes zero sense to build this stuff in areas with tiny populations

Nothing is stopping rural people from moving

It would be inefficient at best, a total waste, full of corruption, shitty service at worst. Nah, let the private sector figure it out.

Cost to home for rural broadband would be in the trillions.

Just curious. Do progressives like Warren ever get concerned that they'll get to a point where there's no more new stuff that they can promise to provide for "free."

Lack of quality internet access holds me back from moving to a more rural location and raising some cattle, as we also have an Internet dependent business and careers. I imagine it has a negative impact on a community's ability to attract new industries, too, especially those that are data intensive.

Not sure what the answer is, but it damn sure isn't moar guvment.

What if I put the DMV (or VA if you prefer) in charge of your cable? Or healthcare?

Internet has reached the point of it being a utility.

BTW, since when does "reasonably priced" mean free?
