1) So we are in an inflation now?

2) If tariffs replace income tax, it will be a net gain for the majority of people

What tariffs, specifically?

99% of these articles are talking about Trump's proposal for universal baseline tariffs. I think you know this.

At least 400 estimates on Trump’s proposed tariffs show they will have a positive effect on the American economy,

Enjoy your added inflation.

Who do you think absorbs the cost?

Did they take any sort of stance against inflationary policies of the Biden/Harris administration?

Asking for a friend...

Just like they teach a man can be a woman. The 2016-2020 time frame had deficit spending, Tariffs, and low inflation of 1.8%. Theories were proven wrong. I5 million illegal aliens given EBT cards for food and free housing proved demand side inflation correct

feeling the "remnants of inflation" says it all. We are feeling the full brunt of compounded inflation resulting in 35% price increases across the board over the last 4 years and up to 50% on some food items. For them to get up in arms about some tariffs but not mention the absolute catastrophic rise in prices is asinine

The left will make an exception for their blanket rule of blaming “corporate greed” for any instance of price increases.

Trump's tariffs are leverage and bargaining chips.

America has many empty factories that have completely lapsed into decay.

actually we had tariffs for the first 150 years as a Country, ONLY tariffs, no other taxes and we seemed to both grow and prosper.

We don't live in that world anymore. From a practical standpoint, we don't even have the same federal government that existed before the Civil War.

I keep hearing this talking point and I dont understand it.
If the point of expanding tarrifs is to convince folks to buy American made products and bring manufacturing here there by eventually eliminating the need for tarrifs...than how does that set up long a term revenue stream to fund the federal government?

I have a BSN and took 1 semester of business courses my freshman year and I am schooling you on demand side inflation. Your theory has been proven wrong by actual real world data. Let's lay it out for you one more time since you have no answer. The 2016-2020 time frame had deficit spending, Tariffs, and low inflation of 1.8%. Theories were proven wrong. I5 million illegal aliens given EBT cards for food and free housing proved demand side inflation correct

It’s Walmart, if you can’t afford it just steal it, they help you carry it out with a virtue signal erection.

2016 -2020 proved your theory wrong. We had deficit spending, Tariffs, and low inflation of 1.8%. Inflation didn't happen until we let 15 million illegal aliens into the country and gave them EBT cards for food and free housing. Not to mention the increased cost for insurance because they drive around without any. Your theory has been totally debunked by 2016 -2020 data

You are right that tariffs did not move the needle that much as far as inflation during that time but to blame spending on illegals' aliens as the prime reason for inflation is not really correct. It was a minor factor. When stimulus causes spending to increase faster than productive capacity grows, then inflation results. Stimulus was given to everyone..not just illegals.

The tariffs Trump is supposedly planning are much higher percentage wise and in scope than what was in place then and now. Consumer goods prices will rise. With tariffs this usually happens all at once. A one time shift should not cause a sustained increased year after year of inflation but its going to catch some folks off guard and coupled with whatever the economic short term effects are of mass deportation ... a painful shock to the system may be coming. Some say it will be worth it.. others not so much.

Duh. We’ve already received notice from our suppliers that price increases are definitely on the table. Depending on the supplier they are maintaining the right to raise prices at any point in 2024 but will try and hold to the pricing released at the beginning of the year. Other suppliers are talking about raising prices closer to the 4th quarter. As existing inventory and orders are gone through. Anyone thinking or saying otherwise was either mistaken or lying.
