My local Wallgreens was a tinier "pharmacy only" type, no groceries.
Always took extra time to fill prescriptions, arguments about if our insurance covered something or not.
Never saw any theft issues. Never "packed" but usually not empty either so they should have been doing fine.
All of a sudden they closed shop last year. Supposed reason was "slow business".
Next nearest pharmacy is like 30 mins away from our neighborhood.
6 months later 2 different Pharmacies open up, 1 of them in the exact same spot as Wallgreens. Both doing just fine it seems so not sure what Wallgreen's strategy is.
I don't go to any of those though, I found a family owned one that is much better. Has what I need already in stock, and fills prescriptions way faster.
I can leave my kid's Dr. and walk across the street and they already have it filled and ready to pick up.
Never realized how much difference there could be in service, just assumed they all made you wait.

Walgreens to close 1,200 locations nationwidequote:
Walgreens, like so many others, was investing heavily in brick-and-mortar at a time when Amazon was building an online retail empire / monopoly.

Are they closing stores in areas where shoplifting is legal? Let's hope they close every store in California.
Probably. And in 3 years we are going to hear about all the pharmacy deserts. Many over-educated professionals with lots of initials after their names will meet with city officials to do a root cause analysis of sorts. The conclusion will be the result of a combination of corporate greed and racism.

The regular sized ones are truly perfect distillations of the sickness that is America. Aisles and aisles of some of the worst junk food imaginable, interspersed with all kinds of drugs and drug products nobody needs.

The only Walgreens I've gone to in years and years is the one on St. Charles across from Houston's when I'm visiting family in the area
I used to live across the street from there above LabCorp/next to Burger King. That store was a shite hole 15 years ago. Can't imagine it got any better.

They had gotten so slow and customer unfriendly that I had had enough. Blame only themselves for their horrible customer service
Walgreens and CVS have become the Popeyes of pharmacy’s. Lazy entitled mostly women with an attitude working the phones and behind the counter.

They are closing "underperforming" stores, likely stores in bad neighborhoods and blue states that won't follow the law. As a Walgreens stockholder, I think this is a good plan. You cannot keep stores open that consistently lose money for whatever reason and restructuring will be a good thing in the long run although it's going to hurt those neighborhoods that lose them.

I agree somewhat here.
I've seen a Walgreen close recently in a pretty nice area up in Cypress, TX. Surrounded by 400K-500K homes and above.
This would be my only concern, if they were underperforming in even good market areas.

Good, Walgreens and CVS are shitty stores anyway.....get a local pharmacist, it is way better.

Oh lawd, that Burger King is… something else these days. It’s one of the prime shooting spots on the street since that daiquiri shop got shut down.
It’s cool to go a bit further down the street and watch parades on my family members’ balcony, but man, St Charles along the parade route has become a literal shithole. When I was growing up in the 80’s/ 90’s, it was a good family friendly place to catch the parades. It’s not anymore, and the real estate prices keep going up. It’s insane.
It’s hard to turn your back on a city that you have decades of good memories in, and family still living there, so I’m a work in progress. Thank goodness I don’t live there anymore so I’m not contributing my tax dollars to their frickery.

About a month ago the Walgreens in Northport started closing at 10. Now there isn’t a single 24 hour pharmacy in Tuscaloosa County.

I’m pretty sure the stock market crashed today. I recall in 2020 when someone said that if they didn’t win my 401k would be worthless. Turned out I retired 5 years early.

I kind of expect the publix pharmacy close to me to close down soon. Cvs has closed down.. Walgreens has closed down. Mom and pop pharmacies are struggling. New mom and pop pharmacies seem to pop up every other week, and most only last a few months before they close down. Publix is the only decent one left... and they are almost at a breaking point with all the new transfers.
