Because HB is in the midst of a criminal trial.
He'd NEVER testify under those circumstances.
He'd plead the 5th, and every viewer in the country would recognize his right, and self-responsibility in doing it. It would leave the GOP Hearing Committee members looking like partisan hack buffoons.

Those of you R's who think this is good for America are retarded. I don't see how the House recovers from this (other than with a big loss in the next cycle).
So what do you propose? Leave McCarthy in there so the shite show continues?

Who are the replacement options?
Or, more specifically, who are the replacement options who would be any different?

I think finding out that no option would be different would be useful information to disabuse the last holdouts of government cynicism.
ETA: Also, the fact that no one would do anything any different is not a sufficient reason to not punish inaction and duplicity.

McCarthy should have already had the investigations and the evidence to impeach Wray, Mayorkas, Garland and Biden.

Unless, you know, there was a legitimate reason (which would still exist for any replacement).

"We no longer value loyalty..." Correct, no one should have any loyalty to any politician ever.
I don't even like McCarthy but who in the GOP is going to do a better job? Massie is the only one I would like to see take over and even he is a piece of crap who can't be trusted because he is a politician.

The caucus clearly disagrees. McCarthy only got the speakership because he agreed to this pact with his detractors. He knew and knows that he had to do more than just talk to keep his coalition together. Failures of coalitions happen all the time. McCarthy was not able to manage his coalition to avoid this. He may also not be able to manage his coalition to keep his position.
If successful, the future speaker will at least know that he or she may be removed for a failure of leadership.
