If there is wasteful spending involved, why not cut it?

Vivek can't cut anything.

DOGE can only make recommendations.

Like the Grace commission in the 1980s. Few of its recommendations got implemented.

That look like a MSNBC headline.

If there is any truth to is then the real headline is something along the lines of

Vivek to tackle fraud and waste in the VA, expected to save 120 Billion.

Lots of veterans are using VA, for shite it wasn't really intended for.

I have worked with guys who have good private care and utilize VA for their standard healthcare.
These guys weren't shot, blown up etc.

While legal, this wasn't the intention of the program.

Our grandfather's didn't use the VA for regular care. It was if you got fricked up, or were destitute.

Not popular, but this issue needs to be addressed.

Go listen to Pete Hegseth on Shawn Ryan podcast, one of the first topics they discuss is failures of the VA apparatus and support for having the money follow the individuals.

My assumption is this means removing a substantial amount of money from the department itself

I'm sure this is a line item. But keep in mind that government mismanagement of budgets probably means that this 120 billion never actually made it to a veteran anyway.

Even Obama had a commission to find government waste but when the commission gave him their report he didn't act on it.

Why do you insist on falling for all propaganda? Or are you just a concern troll?

There’s likely 120 billion dollars in waste/fraud at the VA. You could cut out $120B and probably give our vets better services if it was run efficiently.

There is definitely bloat everywhere and probably some fraud and abuse, but in reference to what you stated, not all disabilities are visible.

Veterans also get cancer and other diseases at a higher rate. And yes, unfortunately vets of past wars got much less, but we're clearly in a better position and able to offer better incentives to Vets now. It's the least we can do for them as well.

Probably a combination.

The VA is a bloated piece of shite in many ways. There is a ton of waste like all healthcare.

My bet is there is $120B in savings by getting things more efficient. That would actually mean freeing up $120B more for actual care. Every dollar wasted is a dollar not treating vets.
