Yes there was.
Not the original bill there wasn't. One sole republican in the house voted for it. It passed in the senate solely on party lines.
That doesn't sound too bipartisan to me.

Republicans still MOSTLY don’t get it? shite dude, the uniparty wants it. We’re on our own.

Here’s the information I got from a quick search:
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), signed in 2010, differed from its initial legislative proposals primarily by dropping a public option, reducing the expansion of Medicaid, and altering tax structures to secure moderate democratic and 107 independent votes.
Key differences between the originally proposed ACA and the enacted version include:
Removal of the Public Option: Early proposals included a government-run health plan to compete with private insurers, which was removed to gain crucial Senate support.
Medicaid Expansion Limits: The final bill saw some restrictions compared to earlier versions.
Edit - my point was that the original bill was modified and concessions were made to in order to get it passed…

Pretty sure you can’t make states out of existing states.
You do realize West Virginia used to be part of Virginia, don’t you?

The passage you quoted refers to compromises being made.
Are you saying Concessions were not made in order to get it passed?
If so - that’s the most painfully uninformed opinion I’ve seen all day…
It was watered down… and became a bad bill in the process.

This is a preview of what democrats will do nationally if they ever get back in power.

I’m actually all for this. There may be some pain up front- or not, but this is a soft civil war and I’m confident our odds are good if this is the fight.
I think you are correct. It would have been nice if Republican leaning states would have gone ahead after CA and gerrymandered also, but they eventually will. There is a lot more gerrymandering possible in red states than blue at this point. If SC strikes down race based districts you could see a 5-7 seat swing in southern states. I think eventually IN, OH, MO, and others will follow suit.

Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1 (the Admissions Clause):
quote:
New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new State shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or Parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.
Both states would have to pass it and Congress would have to sign off as well.
West Virginia (1863) was separated from Virginia only because the Unionist separatist government voted for it during the civil war and the obvious assumption was that the matter would be settled by the war with it reverting back to Virginia had the South won.

For democrats. Not for republicans. They made the changes to get the democrats that were holding out to vote for it. And 30 something still didn't.
It wasn't a negotiation with the republicans. It was in order to get a complete abomination upgraded to just terrible so the democrats could pass it themselves. And that's what they did.
There was no negotiating. No concessions. No tit for tat, no debate with republicans. They made it palatable to some holdout democrats and then passed it along party lines.

46.3% of Virginians voted for Trump.
Taxation without representation anyone??

Yes. So obviously turning that state into 91% Dem representation is only fair

Every state should feed their population and land area into a computer and let it create even districts based on math.
Then let the chips fall where they may.

the democrats are at war.
No. They’re facing an existential crisis. They’re more like a wounded animal backed into a corner.
They’ve backed the wrong side and issue over and over and over. The only reason they are a viable party is because the media carries water for them.

To clarify- My argument is that concessions and adjustments were made to get a majority on board…and those actually got the bill passed.
However, they didn’t ram this thing through as it was originally written. And the changes didn’t make the bill better, they actually made the bill ineffective at driving down costs.
I was contrasting the notion the Dems just know how to ram through legislation and get exactly what they want. That didn’t happen in this case.

I said this yesterday.
Jeff ought to call the circus back to Baton Rouge and delay the election party primary a second time. Draw 6 Republican districts and no minority districts. This should be done in 2 days. They have the software to redraw the districts.
Set the election cycle for August Primary, Party Run Off in September, General in November.

Demorat politicians in unison denigrated republicans ad infinitum when they did Texas. Where are the republicans now? Nothing on California and now Virginia.
Republicans are feckless.
Indiana couldn’t even give one more seat. Texas and Florida could have, and should have, gone further.
Republicans are underrepresented in blue states. It’s a crime. And representation is predicated on how many illegal aliens are residing there.
GD republicans.
