No matter what they decide, this part of the hearing was disheartening.

Both sides were using old data and based on the premise that the vaccines are safe and effective and masks work to prevent spread.

Even the plantiffs seemed unbelievably out of touch.

Honestly a valid religious exemption is this goes against the person’s conscience

My wife submitted hers as a practicing Catholic and they kicked it back with quotes from the Pope about how they should take the jab.
They don’t understand it doesn’t matter what church leadership says, it is about the personal conscience.
Will be pushing back again. Anybody had any luck with this? Type of company to also kick back pro-life argument because aborted cells were also used in ibuprofen.

The Court has announced that it will issue at least one opinion this Thursday, 1/13.

I'm hoping this is just an ordinary opinion, and that this one due to the emergency nature of it, is still today.

If not, they're a bunch of worthless lazy asses.

Oh I think they understand it perfectly. Its just that now the Pope/bishops in the US have given them the out they want. "See, the Church says to get the shot"

They seem to think your wife worships the pope and that he alone interprets, therefore, writes the bible.

Agree. It makes me wonder whether we will even get full opinions on the vaccine cases at this juncture. Could very well just be a couple of one-line orders concerning the stays.

Looks like we might hear something Thursday. Still speculation at this point though.

quote:

Supreme Court indicates Thursday will be an opinion day, meaning at least one is likely. Not clear whether the vaccine decisions will be released as (pre-scheduled) opinions or as orders that could come out at any time.

#SCOTUS says it will issue one or more opinions in argued cases on Thursday morning at 10 a.m.

Your argument:

My religion instructs me to pray and listen to God (cite applicable bible verse and quote from the pope).

During my prayers and listening, God has given me direction on this decision. My religion instructs me to follow God’s direction (cite applicable bible verse and pope quote).

While the pope is the elected leader on earth for my religion, the ultimate authority is God (cite applicable verse and pope quote).

Both your refusal to allow my religious exemption request and your wrongful direction on how I should practice my religion are discriminatory. Please follow the law by granting this request or I will seek appropriate legal remedies.

Correct, could still come out at anytime and any reference to Thursday is pure speculation. Could be today, Thursday, or next week. No one knows at this point.

Why do you hate religion so much? It’s unhealthy. I’m not religious btw.

She should write back and say the pope isn't perfect but Jesus is and that is whose quotes I go by then list bible verses. It isn't their place to write back what the Pope or any other religious person says.

It’s religious beliefs and not religion for a reason. As far as the Pope’s comments, he is merely giving his opinion. No where in the catechism does it say though shall vaccinate. Following your conscience is though.

I don’t hate religion per se. I hate when people misuse it or allow it to trump objective rationality.

Edit: let me add: I hate when people misuse it or allow it to trump objective rationality in a way that harms others.

Similarly related question for the Poliboard doctors - is there any part of medical ethics that states patients can/should be forced or coerced into receiving treatment or prevention?

Don’t get me started on the shady ness of giving a person $100 to get a shot or even worse giving a parent $100/kid to get a shot.

No. But the physician doesn't have to treat said person if they refuse treatment.

We had inpatient psychiatric patients refuse treatment - fine - we are not a bed and breakfast - good luck with your illness but we won't be the attending
