The last couple times I've taken my dog for a walk at a park, I've had a couple millennials refer to her as 'they' when asking whether she's male or female. I've tried, but can't come up with a good smart arse reply. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: These kids ask, 'What are they'. The best I've come up with is 'she identifies as a male, but I think that's bullshite'.

How about, "You can see my dog's spirit-ghost, too?"...

Democrats are constantly destroying the English language.

Just ask them, "How many dogs are you seeing right now?"
Or say, "Oh, I just have the one dog."

Spread your dogs legs and point out the Vagina. Then chase them through the park yelling " dogs only have 2 genders". That should keep anyone from disturbing your walk at the park from here on.

I'm actually struggling to see how I'd even form the sentence they are asking.

"Cute dog...are THEY a male or female?"

Like that? Because that gave me ear Aids.

Wouldn't you just ask, "Is IT a male or female?" I mean...if you don't know what a dog dick looks like I mean.

No kidding.

What is they?
What sex is they?

That sounds like pure idiocy. Which, I guess, is what it is.

Do you have to change the verb along with the pronoun to be transgenderally correct?

Singular 'they' actually isn't new. It was commonly used in the past but fell into disuse in the 1600s. It was traditionally used for an unknown person, when you didn't know the sex or number.

Almost as annoying (haven’t had your experience) is errybody assuming my chocolate lab is a male.

“What’s his name?” Her name is Grace.
“How old is he?” She is 2 1/2.
Triggered now dammit.

Sounds like they missed the week in English class when the teacher went over subject-verb agreement.

Ask the millennials what school "they" went to.

I guess the new feature is they want you to use it even when you do know the sex of the person you're talking to.

You sound like my 13 year old son who's into linguistics. This exactly the type of thing he'd tell me after starting with, "You want to hear a Fun Fact?"

You're finally back to in-person learning full time, so, get off the internet and get back to 8th grade!

"They? There is only one of her."

But they just may not know her sex. I mean, you don't really walk up to a dog in the park and look under its belly or lift its tail for a quick look.

I am a very ardent defender of the English language and its proper usage.

That being said, I think you're over-thinking this one.

I've used that same syntax before when asking about animals/pets and it certainly wasn't because of SJW-ism.

For example, I might ask "what are they" in reference to their breed. I'm not necessarily asking what breed is your specific, singular dog. Rather, I am assuming that there are other dogs out there of the same breed, hence "what are they?" or "what breed are they?"

There have been other times I've casually substituted "they" for "it" when speaking about animals. There wasn't any agenda behind it. It's just what happened to come out of my mouth.

I think it's because we heavily anthropomorphize dogs. Addressing them as "they" sounds a lot more "human" than saying "it" if you don't know the dog's sex.

Sounds like you're being sensitive because they didn't bend down and check out your dogs genitals, tbh.
