Not diesel fuel. We've banned the sale of crude oil, but not refined fuel.

And it's not a national security issue right now. People just wanting cheaper gas isn't a national security crisis.

quote:

Once the circumstances are over, back to normal.

What "circumstances?" We've had higher (adjusted for inflation) gas prices several times than we do now and no one declared it an emergency.

quote:

I dont think anybody has suggested that.

I could have misunderstood what he said, but it sure sounded like that's what he meant. Thus the question.

I dunno, guys, it would take more adversity than we're facing right now for me to want to essentially nationalize the fuel industry. Yeah, it's supposed to be temporary, but the last time we did that (with crude oil), it lasted 40 years.

Because that's government.

You’re so divorced from reality, I’m going to answer this by posting one of my favorite recipes… LFG.

Today’s recipe is beef rump roast. Super simple, yet, satisfying. Start with a beef rump roast. Around 2-3 lbs is a good size, preferable with the fat cap still on. Cut some small slits into the roast and insert whole garlic cloves. Next rub the roast with salt, black pepper, and red cayenne pepper. Next, put it in a 9x9 pan into a 375F oven. Cook for about 30mins per pound of roast. Then, add about 1 cup of water to the pan to make a gravy, and leave that in for another 30-45 mins. Finally remove the roast, slice it. And serve with rice (covered with the gravy) and a vegetable of choice. Simple, and yummy.

So which was Art Vandelay?

We know he did both. We know he was an importer / exporter.

But which did he do more of? Which was net?

I can explain it for him (I doubt he'll try).

Populists believe that government exists to ensure that they have a job that overpays them for completely unskilled labor.

They want to use the power of government to make sure that Americans pay higher prices so that they can personally benefit without having to expend very much effort.

It's the same thing that leftist populists have argued for for decades; now rightist populists are doing it.

They want to be able to make $90,000 a year for standing at a conveyor belt and turning a screw. Requires maybe a sixth grade education. And they want the government to enact protectionist policies to make it so.

It's the same sort of wealth distribution scheme that Obamacare is. Or that the majority of government jobs are. Everyone paying more so that a select, relatively small group gets to benefit.

'Merca Fust.

What it really means is, "Me First."

I hear ya. But I'd really like to hear from him. That's a helluva statement for him to make. I hope he doesn't walk away from it.

Honestly, I see it as the beginning of the end for the US.

I don't think that this was directed towards me, but I will jump in.

Wrong. Most of what you posted is not close.

Let's start with the term "Populist".

Noun: a person, who strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups.

By that definition, everybody in the USA is a populist.

Adjective: relating to or characteristic of a political approach that strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups.

Again, that places all people into that category. I don't know of any conservative that feels like the GOP has had their backs. They run on one thing and sway with the wind. This nation, with the GOP elected officials, has marched lock and step with the dems on issues that matter.

Again, all are populists.

Now do we expect the gov to act in the best interest of America and it's citizens? DAMN STRAIGHT we do. That even makes YOU a populist. Does that mean standing up to rogue nations gaming the system at our citizens expense? Yes we do. Do we expect the Fed gov to honor the constitution? Hell yeah we do.

For Conservatives (now what you label as populists) we had enough of the GOP selling out our nation in many many different ways. Immigration is one.

That's a bs comment and you know it. I don't know of a single conservative, now populist, who thinks that. Not one. Sure we expect the fed gov to NOT ENACT policies that harm it's citizens. It's more than insane to suggest the fed gov (people we elect) should not be held accountable and that we should sit idly by and blame everybody BUT them for doing things that harm our people.

LMAO! What about the above is wealth distribution?

I can think of 2 right here in Mobile County that I know of

Are you sure they are refineries and not drying/sweetening facilities? Oil off the coast of Alabama is very, very sour. The processing facilities, such as Yellowhammer, near Daulphin Island are quite large. The nearest refinery I can think of to Mobile, is Chevron in Pascagoula.

Edit - Veritex is in Mobile Co. I have never been there nor seen it.

The Vertex Mobile Refinery is a refinery on the border of Mobile and Saraland, Alabama. It produces diesel, jet fuel, vacuum, gas oil and gasoline. As of January 2022, it has an operable capacity of 90,600 barrels of crude per day

Look around you. It made American firms, universities, entertainment companies, and supply chains financially dependent on a party-state that treats commerce as an instrument of power. Once that dependence existed, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and, to a lesser extent, other mercantilist governments could shape U.S. production, speech, research, and security posture without landing a single soldier.

There is absolutely no denying that.

I can go deeper if I need to.

You specifically attacked the Free Market. You won’t ever convince me that is a good thing. So what are you championing? What’s the goal and how do you get there?

And I explained the results. Why ignore it? You addressed nothing I posted, so I can only come to the conclusion you either agree or can not argue against it.

Free trade allowed communist, marxist, Islamic influence into our way of life. And there is no way a person can deny that and be an honest broker.

quote:

So what are you championing?

The future. I dont want to live, nor do I want my kids growing up under a marxist gov nor a globalist collection of nations who meet to decide what American citizens.

quote:

What’s the goal and how do you get there?

The goal is to realign trade towards nations not hell bent on destroying the USA or transforming it into a marxist haven.

That starts reversing the trend.

We have american athletes and organizations that have to tote the friggin CCP line. You have actors having to issue apologies to the whole fookin nation of China in their native tongue.

The list is long and its not hard to see. Those willfully burying their heads are in the process of giving our kids over to these people.

We can keep going after each other as conservtives and lose it all or come together and reach the conclusion that we ALL want.

You want cheap products at the expense of a free America? I have a hard time believing that.

You want free trade so bad with these nations that you are willing to give up what we had for 200 to 2025 years? Then do you ... but dont come here with the "Im a conservative" because of that. There is nothing conservative about it at all.

You got 2 down votes for saying that our trade needs to be where nations not aligned with our way of life and constitution.

Think about that.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the other side of that coin is the cost going up from things shipped here from over seas.

The best way to handle this is to continue to restructure the routes and who we deal with until its all a mute point.

So the economy and the foreign wars are going so great we need to implement restrictions on gas?

My chauffeur just told me he paid $6 per gallon for diesel to fill up my Denali in Steamboat Springs. Not real happy about that.

Let me help you. I wanted you to speak for yourself. I don’t care to make assumptions about your rationale. I also don’t particularly care to argue on a message board. All I wanted was for you to tell us why Free Markets are a bad thing in your eyes. That’s it. The readers can come to their own conclusions. Maybe they agree and maybe they don’t. Personally, I think you’re a little out there on this subject. It’s too conspiratorial and I am not a fan of government intervention which your position will require. Let businesses do business. We can decide what is best for us and our clients and whether that product is domestically sourced or overseas (which is far more than China).

Which nations are those that can be reliably counted on now and into the future? Argentina and Venezuela for now… Japan. Then who? Maybe South Korea and Israel? What does that do to our import and export market? How does that impact domestic jobs? Take our Ag industry which does a ton of business overseas and supports millions of jobs across the nation. Restricting trade will do extreme damage to it and the families that are supported by it. My family being one of those not all that long ago.

HOLY shite

Price controls and government dictating who companies can sell goods to using socialist language ("national security" instead of "infrastructure")

What could go wrong?
