Wait, why does this chart stop at 2020? Why don’t you show us what’s happened since?

Why would food and energy be volatile?

They label them volatile to justify excluding them from the inflation rate. I can only guess, but if food and fuel were included in the inflation rate, it would be somewhere well north of 10%, maybe as high as 20%. It’s anyone’s guess though because they’re hiding the data, or making it really difficult to find.

So, take the blue pill huh?

When your government’s answer to not being able to pay their own bills is to print more money, it devalues the dollar, and causes inflation to get out of control. Combine that with your country’s war upon fossil fuels and refusal to drill it’s own oil and become energy independent because there’s an agenda to enrich themselves through the new green energy they’re all heavily invested in, fuel goes through the roof, and so does shipping, and everything that is shipped, which includes your food, and everything really.

Business and industry doesn’t just take it on the chin like there’s some massive profit margin out there that allows them to just take massive hits and keep the price the same.

Every single bit of this is driven by US voters who chose this for themselves, and it’s not slowing down because until you can get these people and their irresponsible mentalities out of office, and get spending under control and invest in AMERICA instead of the rest of the world and what puts money in the pockets of the ruling class and wealthy corporations, you aren’t going to fix the problem.

The dramatic fall in underlying inflation this year is clearly real, and corroborated by many sources, notably business surveys. Voters, especially Republicans, may believe or claim to believe that inflation is still rising, but while this belief may be politically important, it’s just wrong.

Well, here is M1 and M2. I agree that Biden poured gas on the fire, but I doubt we are even feeling the effects of that yet.

It's old, but we don't have all the data for Biden's amin, for obvious reasons.

Nobody is arguing the deficit went down under Biden.

Although, I am very curious if he can beat Trump's 1st term, which has the record for expansion of that deficit. If Biden's 1st term doesn't beat Trump's, then Trump's record will stand for a while.

Friend,

The US is the biggest producer of crude in the world and we are producing more crude now than ever before. LINK We produced more crude in June (the last month for data) than we have in any month except three in US history.

Yours,

No, it’s like a certain segment is looking at things from a realistic point of view, and not through the approved narrative that the MSM pumps into your heads, and yet don’t line up with our realities.

The mere fact that it is NOW being talked about in the media is solely because they know that it is a very vulnerable issue with their Biden administration, and so they have to spread their own version of reality to keep Biden in power another four years. OTHERWISE, you would not even hear them or their foot soldiers out there spreading the word of disinformation to give Biden another four years, as if it wasn’t his policies that got us in this place in the first place.

Going up less is not going down. It’s going up slower.

My money goes to “all items”. I have to buy a car, fuel and food.

That's rich. Maybe you should pay attention. I said Trump wasn’t trying to force states to shut down. How does congress passing bills to float states that are tripping over themselves to shut down counter my objectively correct statement?

You're suppose to be a lawyer, right.

Cool. (1) who is discussing this? (2) who in this thread claimed support for this? (3) what does this have to do with inflation?

1.) I am.
2.) Irrelevant to the fact that large swaths of America supported it.
3.) It highlights the reaction from both sides of the political isle. Progressives pisses their pants and created this economic problem because of the things they wanted and mostly got.

The annual core consumer price inflation rate in the United States, which excludes volatile items such as food and energy, fell to 4.7% in July 2023

So exclude the things where most people are seeing the biggest increases? I know that's true for my family. I've really seen a sharp rise in my grocery bill, power bill, and somewhat in my fuel bill over the past 2 years almost.

Exactly. It’s all a smoke and mirrors game to make the American public think inflation is not nearly as bad as it actually is. What’s insulting about it is they think we’re stupid enough to fall for it. But sadly, as the debate from some in this thread shows, in many instances they’re right, there are plenty of Americans dumb enough to fall for their lies.

What if I told you the CPI is LOWER if you include food and energy currently?

BLS Showing CPI Data - Current Aug 2023

ETa: I too see the substantial energy jump in Aug and suspect that wont be the case soon.
