No you don't. Government should not be bailing out failed companies.
"Bailing out" and "purchasing with the intent to sell to another buyer" are completely different things. I need to see what the government is trying to do here. I'm not going to just take the word of some dude I've never heard of from twitter.

why didn't the government own 90% of all the big banks/aig they bailed out in 2008 with that 700 billion tarp. government did get some equity in gm when they bailed them out.
The government should own a stake and take a cut of the profits for any bailout, but many conservatives will complain about it. They think the government should only generate money by stealing from the labor of workers, not through investments.

Spirit was a decent Airline when it was small mostly offering Gambling Charters and linking Detroit and Atlantic City with other markets. Private Equity got a hold of it, ran up huge amounts of debt, and basically turning the Airline into an airborne Greyhound Bus.

I read this as bailing out Sprint, not Spirit.
I don’t see the point in bailing out Spirit.

Well.. Mandami is gonna show us how to run a grocery store in NYC, we can run a domestic airline owned by the US I guess.

I could support this if we'd use it strictly for mass deportation flights.

This exact topic is how I drove Tiger Rag nuts one night. I had so much fun poking at him. He deserved it

Haven’t made money since 2019. Seems like a great investment.

I'm surprised that 90% of Spirit is only worth $500 million
Yeah, seems rather low

Buy them and use them for deportations.
Or
Let them take all the folks that are disrispect’d to keep all the other airlines safe.
Or convert them into luxury stabbing cabins in the sky for members of the administration to join the mile high club.

Most likely targeting the melanin rich voters.

Why in gods name would we do this? This isn’t the small government I voted for.

JetBlue won a hostile takeover bid for Spirit back in 2022, outbidding Frontier with a $3.8 billion offer.

The Department of Justice sued to block it, arguing it would hurt low-income travelers by removing a budget competitor. A judge agreed and killed the deal in early 2024.

The judge who famously blocked the JetBlue-Spirit merger in January 2024 was U.S. District Judge William Young.
He became a bit of an internet sensation at the time for the way he worded his ruling. In his 109-page opinion, he specifically addressed the people who rely on Spirit’s cheap fares, writing:
"Spirit is a small airline. But there are those who love it. To those dedicated customers of Spirit, this one’s for you."

Let Walmart airlines fail. It’s for the best of all humanity.

In a free market a judge wouldn't block me from purchasing things.
