Tweet: Steve Scalise is now much more active on the House floor.
At least they’re attempting to negotiate.
Here is the most likely scenario. McCarthy drops out and Scalise is put forward. Scalise will give in on some concessions to the 20, both sides will claim victory and now there is a new SotH.

Probably because Trump said vote for McCarthy
quote:
ormer President Donald Trump offered a full-throated endorsement of ?Rep.-elect Kevin McCarthy’s bid to become House speaker Wednesday morning, urging all Republicans to “VOTE FOR KEVIN.”
“?Some really good conversations took place last night, and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY, & WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA, THE ONLY SPEAKER IN U.S. HISTORY TO HAVE LOST THE ?’?HOUSE?’ TWICE!,” the 76-year-old former president said in a posting on his Truth Social platform.?
“REPUBLICANS, DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT. IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE, YOU DESERVE IT. Kevin McCarthy will do a good job, and maybe even a GREAT JOB – JUST WATCH!?” Trump added. ?

Trump just wants "his" win over Nancy. One of those times that his ego and need to win in his own mind are driving towards a guy that is a classic RINO and a terrible choice. As much as McCarthy votes and pushes the Dem position, he might as well just switch parties.

No idea.
I was under the impression that was the single concession to which McCarthy had already agreed, prior to yesterday’s vote.
I don’t get it.

Yesterday I said I didn’t see that happening.
I assumed the 20 would dig in their heels and not budge.
But …

It appears Scalise is at least talking to folks.
If that’s the case, your scenario is highly plausible.

So, as Republicans, who do we want as Speaker?

Kat Cammack, why don't you have a seat? Lecturing the Freedom Caucus.

If McCarthy had been a better minority leader during the last cycle, he would have had a larger majority from which to draw the necessary votes to end this. Somewhat ironically, if had been such a leader, he wouldn't have to do this and would likely have been speaker by acclimation.
At this point, this is unprecedented enough that he should have the class to step aside and support someone who can get to 218. At least, that's my $0.02.
The way McCarthy walks around all cocky and laughing talking to people when they aren't voting says it all. The democrats coalition is a bluff leaked out into the media so he can't own it if needed...
He thinks Sean Hannity & Newt has his back. Little does he know that we the American people with any sense remaining; want the establishment gone whether Donnie Tiny Hands (As Jimmy Dore' calls him
40 years of establishment failures and the omnibus Ukraine slush funds- was the last straw.
Some C-Span guy just said someone tweeted that after the 8th try the Speaker is never chosen and they could do this for months.
Maybe we ought to call our reps or email them now! DO NOT STAND DOWN TO THE BEAST! Even if his name is Kevin.
Side Note Guess: MTG is boinking Kevin at the fat pollsters shared condo.

The patronizing attitudes of some of these politicians (e.g., “We’ve heard from our constituents, and that’s a very good thing!”) is tone deaf and annoying AF.
What do they think we’re doing?
They act surprised that people are done with the lot of ‘em.

“The people” haven’t overwhelmingly voted for McCarthy, sis … y’all have.

My response to such platitudes from them is best said by Yul Brenner in The Ten Commandments:
"I will hang you myself if you tire me further."

Came in this thread to post this. He looks beyond pissed and tired. He doesn't know what to do at this point.
