The Trump administration on Monday blocked a historic agreement between Major League Baseball and the Cuban Baseball Federation that would have allowed Cuban players to sign with U.S. teams without needing to defect.

The existing deal will not be allowed to go forward because it was based on an erroneous interpretation by the former Obama administration that the Cuban Baseball Federation was not part of Cuba’s communist government, a senior U.S. official said.

“The agreement with #MLB seeks to stop the trafficking of human beings, encourage cooperation and raise the level of baseball,” the Cuban Baseball Federation said in a message on Twitter. “Any contrary idea is false news. Attacks with political motivation against the agreement achieved harm the athletes, their families and the fans.”

The Cuban government sounds angry about this. That must mean Trump did the right thing.

So it's okay for communist Chinese to come play basketball, but it's not okay for communist Cubans to come play baseball?

How is this a good thing?

Especially at a time when one major player pipeline is falling apart due to political unrest (Venezuela).

While I hope they find a way to allow Cubans to come play without defecting, you must have missed this part:

What, are we running out of talent in our country of over 300 million people?!?!? Let's work on developing American talent, not commie Cuban or Venezuelan.

Because like all Democrat deals theres hidden or obscure line items in the deal that arent very good.

Of course no news headline will discuss that and they'll just focus on how it effects the professional sports.

More competition is a good thing.

If that were an accurate descriptor of you, you'd understand that.

Dude (or whatever you are), I have a Master's degree in economics, I know a thing or two about 'competition.' We don't have to go to commie countries to get 'competition,' it can happen at the junior league level and beyond right here in the good ol' USA.

So don't you worry about what 'accurately' describes me and let's keep our 'dolares' here and not gift them to the Castros and their minions.

This part is important to note. Because while a lot of people are going to get hung up on the ridiculous politics of this, there are legit human trafficking and safety issues at play here.

Anyone not familiar with what Cubans can go through to play in the US should read up on Yasiel Puig's journey.

MLB is attempting to clean up some of the seedier parts of the talent procurement process and this doesn't help.

Then maybe watch a fricking baseball game some time. It sounds like you need to learn to relax anyway.

I can think of a couple other words that accurately describe you.

Yes and what about the other regular people and how this policy effects them? Theres more people effected than just baseball players.

We dont know everything involved with the deal...and knowing Obama and his love for communism and the Castros it wouldn't shock me if there were some hidden things that are really bad in the deal.

MLB should be putting pressure on the Cuban government, not giving a new front for their propaganda. Some of you are amazingly clueless about Cuban politics.

That can be discussed in the thread about regular people from Cuba.

This one is about baseball players.

So stupid. The US Cuba policy has been a total failure for 50 years. We do business with a lot of other countries that are worse than Cuba but because a few people got their land taken away from them the Cuban people and US businesses have to pay the price.

South Florida Cubans are just as bad as African Americans that want reparations for slavery
