I only wish this UMC schism was on a broader basis. The Book of Discipline is rife with progressive political positions unrelated to the faith. As it stands, a divide based solely on the LGBT issue will result in "non-affirming" churches becoming targets.

What?! The Church is nothing more than a tool for the State?!

We only have centuries and centuries of world history to back this up...

If the SBC ever goes this route

I've been hearing about Southern Baptist churches having the right to conduct gay weddings if they so choose, since the early 1980s! So nothing controversial as far as I'm concerned.

Hey sweet cakes. You never played my game yesterday. You ran away. It’s okay, here. We can try it again.

let’s play a game Tarzana.

I have a stretch of land 20 miles wide. Along that stretch there are 4 heavily guarded crossing zones where you’ll be subject to search and technological surveillance. Between these 4 heavily guarded crossing zones are a few miles of open area. I’ll give you $1,000,000 for the cocaine you get to my house.

How do you get the coke to my house?

Do you Waltz through the heavily guarded entryway?
Do you risk being caught on CCTV?
Or do you go to the gaps between the entry points?

Now. Let’s run the simulation again, except this time the entire length has a wall and electronic surveillance and the already hard points of entry are further defended.

What’s your plan now?
Is it easier?
Is it harder?
Is there more risk?

The Church is the body of Christ, who is the head. There may be particular denominations, sects, groups, or individuals within the Church that have been used as tools of the government but that doesn’t invalidate what the Church is.

No you haven't. There was one church in South Carolina that performed one. The SBC promptly kicked them out.

Mnhm. That works alright. For small quantities. One of the ways I get fine herb from Colorado

You gonna ship 1000 kilos through UPS?

Now. Of course you knew that we’re talking about large shipments at the top of the chain. Not the small side dealer sending out half ozs of weed or a oz of blow. And you still chose to give a shite arse answer.

Care to try again mon frere?

Au contraire, mon frere. I was in a Sunday school class at Northwest Houston Church back in 1982 when the topic of performing a gay wedding ceremony was seriously discussed in that meeting! The general consensus was the SBC was autonomous and if the congregation agreed to let it happen they could.

That's true from a governing perspective but it would result in being expelled from the SBC.

So it was discussed....

Care to link the archived newspaper clippings of that 1982 gay wedding at northwest Houston church?

This game is WAAAY too complex. Try something like Wheel of Fortune or Buzztime Countdown Trivia then I'll get engaged in it.

It isn’t complex if you have an ounce of intellect and logic.

You know the answer. It just destroys your argument.

A person very close to me goes to a UMC. A bible is barely cracked. They are very liberal and speak directly of progressive politics. It’s like Man In The Castle for religion. When I left I literally felt disgusted.

We left the Catholic Church because of the child rape cabal thing and the Vatican’s push towards a totalitarian socialist one world government.

We joined the Methodist church last year and now this. The Methodist church even with the changes is still more palatable.
