United Methodist Church special session this week

The good thing about being Southern Baptist is that the local church is autonomous. If the SBC ever goes this route, we'll ignore it or withdraw.

Yeah we’ve been discussing quite a bit in church and Sunday School the last few months. Predictions are generally that none of the options to maintain the Church as one are going to pass the vote, and the UMC is about to split up.

I imagine the United Methodist Church as a body is headed towards a split into different sects of Methodism.

This was brought up in our Men's Emmaus reunion group on Thursday. Our church elders aren't optimistic about the likelihood the church avoids a schism.

A lot of people expressing their own opinions of what they think God says. Nowhere is there a search of the scripture mentioned here or in the many articles written on this subject.
It would be a very short discussion if they just went to the scripture. It is stated plainly and does not require any interpretation.
Good rule of thumb is, the parts of the Bible you disagree with should be read daily.

I’ll never set foot in my UMC again...and my family has hardly missed a Sunday in almost 6 years.

A split is going to happen, but like the Presbyterians in the 70s and 80s, the UMC technically owns property and real estate. So if a local church wants to split, they will either have to pay for their buildings again or find another place.
It really slowed the Presbyterian split, which opted for more church planting. There are some beautiful Presbyterian churches across the South that have like 10 attendees. The churches just can’t afford to leave and their parishioners have moved on.
I generally think the SBC has caused a lot of issues in modern Christendom, but boy they got the autonomy of the local church right.

I grew up as a Methodist. I left that synagogue of Satan when I started reading the Bible for myself

I used to attend one. The only moderate-right episcopal church left.

It would already be a dead church because its membership is growing old and younger people don't care to be judged about divorce, abortion or being queer.
So to revive it, the lake area residents (formerly of Dallas) have taken it over. The pastor is retiring and his family portrait looks like something straight out of a SJW magazine (neckbeards and a mixed-race adoption).
The congregants praise him for making it "fun."

Another good rule of thumb is to think about your core beliefs and the search for every verse that says something about that topic. You will end up finding that most ever denomination picks and chooses what they want to believe. All of the hard truths are watered down to appease the masses.
