Madison UMC has sizable debt on their property and they seem to be prepared to leave by offering the debt to the general conference. They are likely to get the same deal that the Orchard in Tupelo got. Pay a year of apportionment and do your own thing.

Yes. A little over $3mm but there has been no talk of leaving except among some individuals.

The UMC worships a Christ that isnt found in the Bible and preaches a gospel that leads no one to salvation. Their focus is on social justice and not in salvation from sin.

I’ve been attending my town’s fUMC for going on 6 years.

I can tell you that this statement about focus on SJW is correct.

It would not happen at our church but if they go with the One Church Plan, either my church will leave or I will. My wife and I are pretty faithful givers but I have no intentions of having any of my money go to the ones who support the one church plan. If they adopt anything other than the Traditional Model, I would hope we would follow with the Wesley Covenant Association. If they didn't I would find one that does. Don't know much about Independent Methodists but might have to do some research.

I fear the UMC is pretty much hellbent on taking the same disasterous path as the Episcopal Church.

yep but hopefully not for their sake. also pretty sure presbyterians can ordain openly gay pastors now. but that church has split and been fighting like many. I know some will slip between the cracks in all churches but openly ordaining is a no no. all sinners are welcome but if you do not like the rules stop trying to change them. marriage is between a man and a woman and the act of homosexuality is a sin. either you follow the christian doctrine or you do not.

again all sinners are welcome in church and all can repent. But you do not call your own shots. another slippery slope like gay marriage leading to this mentally ill transgender BS which was never an issue before it was so minute. Next thing you know you will have NAMBLA wanting what they do legalized, then bestiality. Where does it stop?

i never gave two shits what homosexuals did before they jammed it down everybody throat and still do not to an extent until they do shite like this pressuring churches. has nothing to do with judgment. has to do with scripture and doctrine. Either you want to folow it or not. stop trying to revise things to fit your narrative! If you do not like what the bible or a church teaches DO NOT GO! REAL SIMPLE!

if the catholic church ever accepts gay marriage like others and openly ordains gay clergy I am gone. Gone to the only other church i would ever attend now. The eastern orthodox church. i was a protestant years back and converted to the ctholic church and happily so.only one last stop for me if they frick up! left the evangelical prod demonimations for many reasons.

No. I’m of the Reformed persuasion, but I was a member of a UM church a long time ago.

I’m a member of and regularly attend a UMC church. It’s pretty conservative and traditional, though we do have a more “modern” service option with regards to music. Over the past 12-18 months, I’ve heard rumblings that the church was considering leaving the UMC and becoming non-denominational. I assume this move will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

Recall the words of St. Peter in his epistles: "Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one's own interpretation." - 2 Peter 1:20 "He [St. Paul] writes this way in all his letters, speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction." - 2 Peter 3:16 One of the two major tenets of Protestantism (Sola Scriptura) is in direct contradiction to what Peter tells us in his epistle.

Sola Scriptura strikes again.

That's why William Tyndale was burned at the stake for translating the bible into English. Can't have people seeing for themselves there is nothing about nuns, magical holy water, selling it in God's house, sprinkling of babies, limbo/purgatory, selling of indulgences.

It's especially better not to follow the Bible’s guidelines for a priest and instead the traditions of men. How else could you build an unassailable cabal of gays and pedos to rape kids on an industrial scale since the high middle ages?

You cats make the heretics look like lightweights.

A Southern Baptist Church is your answer to unhappy Methodists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians and anybody else.
Autonomous local churches owned by the membership; priesthood of the believer meaning you don't need a
go-between between you and God; salvation by grace rather than works so you always know how you stand with God; once saved, always saved so there's no bouncing back and forth;
heterosexual male pastors (no gays, no women). What's not to like about this? ALL THESE POSITIONS ARE SUPPORTED BY THE BIBLE.

I could see myself converting to Catholicism, my love of Anglican culture aside.

That’s my only viable option though.

I’ve always wondered about that independent Methodist church on 51 north of Madison. Seems to be healthy.

A good friend of mine was Southern Baptist and there was a large division in his church and many left. He joined an Anglican Church and is quite happy with it. I would hate to leave my Church but we are getting down to the cut line with this issue. We have been kicking it around since the 70s and think we are about to have a final resolution. I fear (and expect) that the decision will drive me away from what I have been all of my life; and I'm old.
